Thank you Scott I just singed up on the 6 month free HD package. I was already getting the HD package now with the 6 months free the HD package now will cost 5.50 a month over the next year v120.

If UPS get their heads out of the clouds they will deliver my Hughes HTL-HD today and i will also be able to enjoy a cheaper HD package............

LETS GO UPS HURRY THINGS UP HERE.

Just got the deal done. :) Thank you Directv for getting things together!

I just switched over from Pegasus 2 days ago where I was already getting the HD package..
When I called today to get the 6 mos HD free deal, the CSR told me she tried to cancel and reactivate the HD pkg (so I could get the 6 mos free) but her system wouldn't let her. She said she will have a supervisor call me back.

The curse of Pegasus continues..... :)

I called DirecTV the second time and I was able to get the six months free. The credit for the current month has already been applied to my account!

Thanks.

Just got off the phone with Direct TV and it was smooth sailing all the way. Free HD for 6 months is a wonderful deal. One thing he also told me but I did not think about it while on the phone was that there was no commitment obligation, he just said its free for 6 months then $10.99 after. It does not matter to me either way but if there is no commitment that's cool.

Glad to see everyone is getting in on this deal. Did yall see what DISH's response was? Scott posted it in the DISH forum under "Dish Network on HDTV". They aren't planning on any discounts for their HD pak and say that their TV and receiver deal for under $1000 is the way they will play it.

Nah, I would much rather have this deal. :)

I just added the HD Package online. It comes up as 6 months at $0.00 and didn't mention any commitment.

Scott,
Thanks for the heads up on the HD deal.
I am (was) an existing Pegasus customer with the HD package.
Folks doing the transition from Pegasus to D* should call our "handlers" at 866-237-0700
Called the number, explained that I had requested the transfer forms about 6 weeks ago, never received them.
The lady there asked (love that) to put me on hold for 3-4 minutes, came back on and said she can set me up.
Told her my programming choices, she got that setup.
Asked her about Sunday Ticket payments already made (to Pegasus), no problem, credits issued.
Asked her about the HD deal, she said everyone can get it, but because of the switch (as posted previously) it had to be handled as an exception. Her supervisor will handle it. Should be on first statement (8/19)
Only drawback (which would have happened anyway at the end of the month.) They don't have access to Distant Locals (NY/LA) waivers, so I'll lose those until (and if) the locals grant them again. She started the process. (I'm hoping the local affiliates re-issue them. I had them before, but now that Albuquerque is on D*, can't say for sure.)
Great feeling to be back on D* directly. Had them when I lived in Columbus, OH, but went to Pegasus when I moved here 5 years ago.

This board is awesome. Truly great public service. I will be donating part of my credit as a 'finder's fee'. (I tried, but there seems to be an issue with the PayPal servers right now)

The resolution specialist that I talked to yesterday just called me to see how things were and if I was able to get it added on. I told him yes. He did tell me that this promo was supposed to only be for new customers not existing customer. I didn't even want to argue with him so I just said okay and the call ended.

I hope Directv CSRs know that this deal is for everyone.

Only new subscribers to HD pack.

Acctually this offer is SUPPOSED to be for new subscribers to the HD pack.
I'm glad he called you back... you know, to ensure that everything was resolved. Most of our reps however are adding it on to current HD subscriber's accounts as an exception. ( that's a lot of exceptions ).
Anything else, feel free to contact us 24 hours a day/ 7 days a week.

DirecTV rep (First welcome great to have you here) :)

Second according to the fax (which can be found on one of the other pages in this thread) it says the promotion is good for new and existing customers. It does not say a thing about having to be a new HD subscriber. Besides that there is no definition defined that I know of which describes what a new HD subscriber is.

For example if I call up and cancel my HD pack and subscribe again I am once again a new HD subscriber. :)

I do applaud DirecTV for opening this up, they are creating good product loyalty with their customers. :D

I am glad we can save people money.

*** DIRECTV ® HD PACKAGE OFFER ***

Any residential customer who activates the DIRECTV ® HD Package between August 5, 2004 and

December 31, 2004, and commits to one year of any DIRECTV ® TOTAL CHOICE ®

programming package will receive the first six months of the DIRECTV ® HD Package free.

It's on page 2, you posted the whole memo to dealers. It's supposed to be for customers that are avtivating ( not currently subscribed ) the DTV HD pack. But DTV has no problem with this. In most cases we are activating it anyway.

SO even if D* enforced this, I cancel today, activate tomorrow, save $'s, cause D* extra work.

True you are.

Very true... and that's one of the main reason's we're not enforcing it.
No big deal. We're more than happy to please our customers any way possible.

No more posts from me untill tonight... I have to run.

So, I just called and tried to get it (I already activated the HD package a couple weeks ago). The CSR said I can't get the special rate because I already had it. I said I knew of several people who got the deal, and he said that was "not true". Should I just call back and try with somebody else? I got the guys name & employee ID. I was not too thrilled with his response...

... and justice for all

Like I said in a previous post, I cancelled my HD pack on the 4th because that was how I read it! It looked like you needed to activate the package on 8/5/2004 or later to get the offer. Either way I called and have now received the offer.

It is nice to see that D* is extending it to everyone though ... that is fair and it is right. The quickest way I have ever seen to tick off a customer is to give their neighbor a better deal :yes

That's one of the main reasons Directv is better than DISH. DISH will screw existing customers and always give better deals to new customers.

Had to talk to 2 different people but the second one finally gave me the deal saying she valued me as a customer and she will make an exception for me...

By all means call back - the CSR I spoke to this morning was evidently just the opposite of the one you spoke to. He had no problem with my having the HD package already.
