AAD - Is Out of Business

DISH imports all the networks for this new spot beam except for ABC and this little ABC station has complained for years about not being fed to our area. So DISH set up a new spot beam and put everything on it in SD only. And since things went digital, we get no OTA stations per antennaweb.org.

What market are you in

My 2 cents:

119W is one of the main orbital slots, transponders are golden (Dish might claim), therefore bandwidth leasing price out of transponder 15 was incremented and no longer profitable for AAD based upon number of subscribers....

I keep trying to find logic in why did Dish even made a deal long time ago with AAD (formerly NPS) and now AAD state that things have changed and there is no longer use for this kind of service (not profitable).....there have always been the solution of moving addresses constantly for RV users, when in spot beams...there might be certain conditions where there are no spot beams at all and only CONUS beams, what will they do? they will then have to figure out if they can reach a CONUS beam with locals; how about people that aren't covered in any spot beam at all (non RV users)? How about people located in US possessions or non CONUS locations that are looking forward to have news out of any main land mayor city, there are different kind of conditions, this is a big country with different kind of conditions large amount of customers could have different kind of needs and variables it's difficult to generalize....so the satellite service provider has to figure out something to serve their costumers under certain conditions, I thought this was the conception for Dish-NPS (AAD) once again money talks and the people now have less options......

Regards.

RVers could use one of the remaining conus local markets on Eastern Arc, and then never have to switch service address. That's assuming they have line of sight and proper MPEG4 equipment.

My mother in law lives in a very rural area of Colorado. She subscribed to Dish and they put the Denver locals on her system. Denver is 250 miles (by car) away. She recently switched over to Direct TV (long story), and she is receiving the Denver locals now also. So, apparently, they CAN make adjustments to what area they can receive.

Just sayin'

Sure, that's called changing the service address.

I assure you DISH can not make adjustments if the "they" you meant is DISH. Does that location have their own locals?

Because you are looking at from now, not then. Then, DISH did not have anywhere near the locations covered for locals as they do now, Add to that it was one of the biggest F.U's ever given to the Networks (Aereo may trump it) that DISH through AAD not only continued to give Distants despite the Court ruling, but now their subscribers could get both locals and Distants if they were in a White Zone.

Today DISH covers most everywhere for locals, transponder space is at more of a premium with more HD channels now than then, lessening how many are willing at home to get Distants. RV's while not as convenient will probably be where DISH can give them locals now.
I'm not sure DISH isn't going to still give Distants to RV's, have to wait and see on that one.

Why should we care about the networks when they obviously don't care about us. No ONE whether and individual, corporation or government should be telling us what programs to watch on what channel or from what city. Like I said if they don't like it tough. They do not own us and we have not signed any ANY AGREEMENT OR CONTRACT that says we have to watch KRUD TV from Lower Slobovia when we would prefer Chicago or New York or anywhere else. We are not a market we are individuals living in a fallacy of a free country. We obviously need to wake up and let the goons know we won't take that anymore.

Sounds like a mistake. Both satcos operate under the same rules. i wouldn't trumpet this too loudly, they may fix their error. And, of course, they will likely discover it anyway. I think others have reported similar errors, eventually found and fixed.

Or she's just in that DMA, which sometimes changes. One set of locals, or two ("also")?

You did not sign a contract, but they own the programming. It is a copyrighted work, and they decide how they want to show it to the public - check out article 1 section 8 of the constitution...

Ok lets assume that your sugestion could be a solution for a RV user, he's somewhere out of theses spot beams:

e14spots.gif

Blue areas I highlighted because they're not covered by any Spot Beam (some flaws I could over look in few minutes) he calls in and he has to say he's some where in the zip code you suggest.....

But what about the other condition I gave:

1.- How about non RV users located in non spot beam locations?
2.- How about people located in US possessions or non CONUS locations that are looking forward to have news out of any main land mayor city,

I was only referring to an RV solution.

CONUS beams cover the entire US. Spot beams don't enter into the equation.

Take for example Cincinnati market. If an address is given from that market, as long as the 77W satellite is visible and locked, you will get the Cincy locals anywhere in the continental US.

Lexington KY and Jacksonville FL have conus locals on 61.5.

The address hopping was suggested here for a solution to RV's due to spot beams.....AAD where served thru CONUS beams.

I really don't know what kind of set up the majority of RV users have (oval, round, eastern arc, western arc) but let's just assume there are some that have a simple round antenna therefore they need to get core (119W & 72.7 W) also Satellite solution for moving vehicles will only allow one main orbital slot, so my humble opinion is that satellite providers can't count with services out of complementary slots for those mobiles users. The only thing I have seen are vessel products out of Seatel and KVH with oval dishes but their products are over $12,000 I hope those RV users have such thing that can be programmed with a touch screen and select the feed from the orbital slot they need if they're using a round antenna.....

RVers have the full spectrum of dish equipment from a simple single LNBF on a tripod, to a 1000.2/1000.4 on a tripod, to a Winegard Trav'ler (1000.2) automatic roof dish, to a single LNBF automatic dome. The dome is what a moving RV would use and most of them can lock onto any one of the satellites (one at a time). The Western Arc is generally the best for RVers.

Counting on one of the few locations that are covered by CONUS beans as an alternative to DNS is risky and it is obvious that Dish plans is to have every location on a spot beam. It is just a matter of time and transponders.

Sure it's risky, but it's a decent stop-gap measure for the foreseeable future.

So who has been attacked by a Directv sales man at a walmart?
