Hello all,

We are new to this great hobby FTA.
We are "TRYING" to get our FIRST system working.
We have a open spot for the IA5 Sat.
We are using a old mounting pole that was used foe a 10 foot c-band dish it plumb and perfect.

We are setting up and non motor right now.
We are using a brand new SatHawk 3000 meter.
We have a 36 inch dis and .4 LNBF

We are located in Wisconsin 53186

We are using settings of EL=39.6 and AZ=193.1, and Tilt= 9.3 CC

Ok as far a what I am getting on the SatHawk it var from 15-23 accross the whole sky.

All thes parts are new from Sadoun.

I am wondering if I have a bad LNBF.

Any ideas out there it real cold and a little snow here today???

Hello

It is a Fortec Star .4 Universal LNBF.

What I don't understand is why I am getting on the signal meter about 20 accross the whole sky.

I hooked the meter up to our 2 DTV setups here is verify the SatHawk 3000 is good since it is new and this the first time I am using it.

I used to work for Primestar as a contractor.

What do you think?

It may be best to do it the old fashioned way until you get used to the meter, using a LIVE transponder and watching signal QUALITY only!

On the meter there will be a few settings depending on what type of LNBF you are using, make sure it says U on the meter screen, it will give you a H transponder and a V transponder, try both!

I would also update the software on the meter as some of the transponders loaded may be out of date meaning you will NEVER find the satellite using it!

Positive ID satellite meters are only as good as the transponders loaded on it!

I'll give it all a try Friday it is to late here now and cold.

Thanks for all the info.

Rich

Here is a good strong transponder you can use.................

DFreq. 12084

POL. V

SR. 22002

Its the Dutch channel BVN, the BEST picture on IA-5 @ 97ºw

make sure your LNB Freq. (L.O.) is set to

9750-10600 for the Universal LNBF

Well I tried to upload a new datafile to the 3000 and have another issue.
I set the port and turned on the meter and found the download that I wanted to upload and open and when the upload bar shows it says Send new line 0 failed.

Got any ideas?

Rich

Try another port, I just got a new USB to RS232 cable and that does the same thing, so I use an older computer to load the software!

FWIW, I am a FTA newbie also, and tried to find IA5 a few weeks ago. I thought it *very* difficult to find with a 90cm dish and a Lifetime Ultra receiver. On the other hand, I could find AMC4 in 2-3 minutes. Finally, by indexing from AMC4 (moving a slightly to the left and a little higher) I found IA5. You might want to try a more powerful satellite like AMC4 to build your confidence that your hardware setup is functioning correctly.

An easy way to find AMC-4 is to use a DirecTV LNB and find DirecTV @ 101ºw

Remove the DirecTV LNB and put on the linear LNB and you are on AMC-4 :)

When using a DirecTV or Dish legacy LNBF make sure you change your LNB Freq. (L.O.) to 11250!!!
