Okay, some satellite/dish education please....

My dish currently points at 110/119/129. How does Dish put a 2nd satellite in the same (general) location, i.e. 129', as an existing satellite ? Are there (2) satellites at 129' currently ? Or, did they move the old one "out of the way", like overnight ?

yes, sir! 129°w is an orbital slot, not the name of any one satellite. That far out in space, the separation of satellites by 100 miles or so is insignificant. Other examples are E*3 and E*12 @ 61.5°w, or E*10, E*11 and D*5 @ 110°w. There is a bunch of them @ 119°w.

I just hope Iran keeps their satellite out of the friggin' way!:D

One more basic question. Do I have to do anything to get this new Satt or it's info or should it be transparent to me? I have a basic Dish 1000 with three LNB's and my receiver calims it is a Dish 500 system and looks at 110, 119, and 129 just outside of Charlottesville VA. Do I just leave things alone and enjoy or should I be changing something?

Ciel-2 information for the average Dish Network subscriber:

Dish Network has just replaced its failing old satellite at the 129 West slot with a new modern satellite called Ciel-2.

If you have a Dish1000, a Dish1000.2 or a Dish1000+ you will receive the signals from the new satellite automatically and you do not need to do anything.

If you have a Dish1000.4 or a Dish1000.5, or you have a dish pointed at 61.5, you do not need to receive this new satellite

Benefits of the new satellite:

- Higher signal strength on National HD channels, especially in Oregon, Washington and New England.

- More capacity for more National HD channels

- 145 spot beams for many more Local HD Network channels in more markets.

To enthusiasts:

If you previously tweaked your Dish1000 to favor 129 over 110 and 119, you should re-adjust your dish to favor 119 (which is now the lowest power satellite of the three).

However, wait until this weekend, because Dish will be doing slight adjustments of the satellite, including footprint, during this week.

That was exactly my plan for this weekend. :)

I have a Dish 300 pointed at 129, but I only have that hooked up to the 8PSK module for TSReader so I really can't compare signal readings to the receivers. But comparing the signals to 110 and 119, this baby is hot!

I'm curious to see quite a few before and after readings from the NW region guys.

This is extremely good news to us in Northwestern Washington state! Maybe now I can actually watch HD shows all the way through without losing signal at least once.

Here are my signal strength readings. For some reason TP 6 is not coming in for me. Also, this morning they were a little higher where most TPs from Ciel 2 were at 57.

Will report my signal strength tonight when I get home from work here in Minn.

Readings from the great (but cold) state of Minn on 129;

tp 17 = 74
tp 18 = 55
tp 19 = 57
tp 20 = 55
tp 21 = 74
tp 22 = 55
tp 23 = 57
tp 24 = 55
tp 25 = 55
tp 26 = 57
tp 27 = 57
tp 28 = 68
tp 29 = 59
tp 30 = 55
tp 31 = 59
tp 32 = 71

definitely much higher than the low to mid 40's previously

I am still all 40s and 50s except a couple in the 60s near Niagara Falls, NY on a Dish 1000+

Little to no change at all for me.

Here in Alabama I went from 25-33 on most of 129 to mid and high 60's. Very nice indeed!!

here's my number's here in south fla, 32=103,31=80,30=75,29=80,28=90,27=80, 26=80,25=76,24=75,23=75,22=75,21=91,20=75,19=70,18=75,17=95 all the rest 1-16 are still on the old E-5 sat getting 60 with dropouts using a separate dish 500 for 129,on a vip222:D

I understand how Oregon and Washington will benefit, but how does New England benefit from Ciel-2? I thought that 61.5 took care of the East coast.

Not if you're not pointed at it.

129 was up and functional with more channels when MPEG4 was first introduced, so many early adopter eastcoasters are living with Dish 1000s and 1000.2s.

Question for the crowd.

My Atlanta locals are on both 129 and (now) 61.5. Are they planning on dropping the mirror on 129 at some point in the future, forcing me to take down my 1000.2 and replacing it with the 1000.4?

Probably not but who knows for sure. If they do, E* would have to repoint you at their expense.

For your information Sr, Sat Orbital Slots are professionally assigned by international organizations not the particular decision of any country. The ITU, International Telecommunications Union (formerly CCIRT) regulates this things not the FCC nor any other country's regulatory body. Every country's Regulatory Body is a member of the ITU , the FCC included of course and all its members of course Telecomm Eng's not a**holes like you.

Your remarks shows how little you know in this regards. Your fellow countrymen should feel ashame with comments like this but all I see is Silence and like we use to say in Cuba , El que calla otorga.
