DISH Hopper H 711 software version

Seems like your remote software for the 54.1 is newer than mines. As for Hopper Plus, you would know if you had one since it's basically a Android TV box from DISH that sits between the Hopper 3 and the TV and the HDMI would plug into the Hopper Plus instead of the Hopper 3 and then a USB cable connects the Hopper Plus to the Hopper 3.

As for the channels, maybe mention it by channel name and number? Does the problem happen if you hit up arrow or up arrow and down arrow before doing the down arrow 5 times?

I cannot consistently cause the Hopper 3 shutoff to occur. It is intermittent and has happened while in the channel guide screen and pressing the down or up arrow keys. It has also occurred simply by pressing the 'Guide' button without pressing any other keys.

I cannot consistently or reliably reproduce the error. It does happen multiple times a day and when it happens when my wife is watching shows on the Hopper 3 she lets me know about it very loudly.

It varies, the last time it happened to me the Hopper 3 shut off (green LED no longer lit and the TV screen went dark) as soon as I pressed the 'Guide' button. When I say shut off the Hopper 3 the green power LED on the front panel is no longer lit and the TV screen is dark.

I am not sure if it displays a 'Press SAT to watch TV' message at that time. The next time it happens I will check. I have no idea what firmware version the Hopper 3 had immediately prior to H711.
If I didn't know any better, I would have thought the Hopper 3 basically said I can't take this anymore and rebooted if the tv screen went dark but with Select able to wake it up immediately, that would mean the Hopper 3 was just in standby. I had been pressing Guide followed by a few up or down and select atleast once daily since August 7, 2026 when I initially updated to H711 from H710 and haven't seen the issue so far.

Something tells me the issue is related to the Guide itself as the Hopper 3 only and the Hopper 3 with Hopper Plus while using the same software for the Hopper 3, the Guide on the later which I have is different as people with the Hopper Plus, Joey 4 and Wireless Joey 4 which are Android TV devices would have a different guide which is probably the reason I have not seen the problem. I think a majority of the people here have Hopper 3's only and also use the DISH 54.x remote but no one else seems to have experienced the problem. Did you try rebooting with the red button reset or unplugging and plugging in the power cord to see if it makes a difference?

It's not limited to any single action. Sometimes when I hit the pause button, the skip, or the info, etc., the receiver will go into that screen saver (press SAT to watch) mode. Some times it switches from watching a recording to live TV. I can't force it to reproduce any of these actions, but it happens randomly two or three times daily.

This is exactly the same for me. It does happen randomly anywhere from 2-4 times per day and I cannot reproduce it intentionally.

I have rebooted via the red button on the front panel and also unplugged the Hopper 3 for several minutes and then plugged the Hopper 3 back in again and the problem persists.

I even had Dish send a replacement Hopper 3 which I activated on Aug. 23 and it has the same issue. I also took an OEM Dish remote from our master bedroom which has a Joey 3 and paired it to the Hopper 3, but the problem remains. The Joey 3 in the master bedroom does not have this problem.

I don't know what else to try. Until firmware version H711 was installed on our Hopper 3 we never experienced this problem. If Dish could revert our Hopper 3 back to the prior firmware version we could test it and see if that fixes it.

Am I correct that you also have a Hopper 3 without the Hopper Plus?

With swapping hardware, that would eliminate faulty hardware. Unless they had something that sends a certain configuration to Hopper 3's on your account. I guess the mystery is more assuming that rvvaquero also has a Hopper 3 only without the Hopper Plus, which means it is using the old guide and not the new guide which is only on the Hopper 3 with Hopper Plus, Joey 4, Wireless Joey 4, what is causing the issue for the both of you when the others who also has a Hopper 3 only without the Hopper Plus also with H711 and not having the issue.

There is a thread here about the new guide vs the old guide:

I am still having two issues that started with H708 for my H3+. Sometimes when I try to play a recoring it goes to live TV. Works ok when I try again. Also, for my Joey 4s, the remote control name went away. When I set it up in the remote control settings it disappears again.

It was actually H708 as I recall from the post here:

It seems like DISH skipped H709 as the next version after H708 was already H710. How do you set the name of the remote control? Can that be done on the Hopper 3 with Hopper Plus? Thanks!

Thanks for the correction. You set the remote name in the remote control settings menu. You can select a name in all H3, H3+, and Joeys.

I've had my Hopper 3 for several years now and have had zero issues controlling it with my Pronto Pro until 8/13/2026, when H711 showed up on my receiver. It kinda reminds me of why I stopped going to the 7-11 a long time ago... :biggrin

Yes, my Sofabaton X2 universal remote worked perfectly for 5 months until the H711 arrived which coincidentally is also the time that my Dish Hopper 3 started acting up. Now its performance is very inconsistent.

The Sofabaton X2 universal remote communicates with it's hub via bluetooth and the hub uses IR to control the Hopper 3. Now it is very inconsistent as I only use it to start up a viewing session on the Dish Hopper 3 and then to end that viewing session.

I think the H711 firmware upgrade is causing problems with IR commands used by universal remotes as well. I can start up a Hopper 3 viewing session several times in a row and then successfully run a shutdown activity. However, after I actually start using the Dish OEM remote the Dish Hopper 3 seems to get stuck on and will not shut off with the Sofabaton shutdown activity. I think this is all related to the new firmware.

Wow, Pronto Pro, that is going back in time. I used 3 different Pronto versions back 20 or so years ago. They were great, but the form factor was short of clunky for my taste. They did work well though, but they use IR as well and I think the IR functionality of the Dish Hopper 3 is corrupted since the firmware upgrade.

Yep, I can definitely agree that the IR functionality of the H3 is messed-up since H711 arrived...

Hopper3 software H711. Since this upgrade there is a bug in the Hopper's IR receiver. The issue is with the IR receiver going to sleep and being slow to wake up and start responding to IR signals. Problem happens with remotes from OFA and Logitech as well as the Dish 21.1.in IR mode. Is this still an open issue?
Called Dish support today. Half hour later I was told that IR is no longer supported. Tech refused to log a ticket to report this request. Even after showing him where the IR on/off setting is in settings/remote/advanced
