The reason W5 is there is for the cable companies. We tag along for the ride just like we did all those years with the masters.

At some point, this service to cable headends was called HITS = Headend In The Sky.

It was pitched at offering cable headends channels feeds in a small number of orbital positions, making it easier and cost effective to offer channels to their customer base.

In addition, there was HITS2Home - this provided programming directly to cable's customers by using the 410 in a customer's home, connected to the cable feed. The 2 systems were merged by the 410, the EPG supported the cable feed and HITS. The premise for this service was allowing cable companies to expand their lineup without investing in headend equipment.

I think the platform will be around for a while (heres hoping!). I'm not sure how you pursuade them to add more channels, but I'll tell you this...we have DISH and 410...we pay less for 410 service...and we watch the 410 more than DISH - because of channel choice.

I wish Skyvision/Programming Center all the best for the future and I'll be a happy customer :up

You are correct on HITS it was started by TCI back in the 90's. Comcast then took TCI over. I hope for the W5 410 service also to go on for many more years with an option to expand in the future. Right now it's way to early to see what will transpire. The first wave will hit the road next year. If it's a big success I'm sure they will expand one way or another. Its all up to the amount of subscribers and how many chances Sky/SRL will take.

If things fall in to place like I hope. I will add something from SRL next year. The generic map issue need to be addressed first. I will be cutting down my package with Direct after year one. I will probably need to pick up a few channels from SRL. Seeing that there keeping around the pick 10 pkg and MTV mini pack makes my day. Those were my favorites. I hope to be a bud subscriber once again. Once NPS is out of the picture I think the Bud will have a chance again. All the bad press NPS puts out daily keeps hurting us.

Well I did a rescan and only found 1 cbs station. That's cbs Yakima Kima tv.AGAIN.What's wrong Why can I only get Kima while all of you get something else? Can you tell me the frequency pids and symbol rates for those channels? And no W5 started as X4 for us home subscribers but when comcast bought it they moved to W5 for the cable companys because it was a mess at Ku band.

Never might I just got them. You people didn't tell me what receiver to use.So I was trying to get them with the Pansat but that's why it doesn't work. They are mapped in the 4dtv receiver no now I got them.I never noticed them there!!!!!!!

Try doing a manual scan with the following for KEPR...4167 6614 PID V: 301, A:302 P: 303

Are you getting anything other than a test pattern for KOMO? Looks like KIMA has moved or is no longer transmitting as KOMO is listed as a ABC station out of Seattle. Another CBS station bits the dust. Wonder if they moved over to AMC3?

Did some more checking it seems that they are all owned by Fisher Communications so they probably all can use that channel.

Had bars and tone on KOMO when I checked last.

Here's the reply from KIMA engineer which helps explain what's going on.

The transponder you have been watching is one leased by Fisher
Communications and it is split into 5 services. Two of the services
are used to distribute Univision feeds to remote stations (such as
Yakima) and the remaining 3 services are for utility and back-up (emergency)
distribution of program feeds for if/when our primary program feeds fail at
remote stations (such as Yakima and Tri-Cities, WA, Lewiston, ID and Boise, ID.
Thus these are designed as “in-house” utility feeds and will vary depending
on the circumstances and are not intended to be 24/7 program distribution
feeds. So it is not consistent as to what program feed may be on any of
the services at any one time except for the first two which carry Univision.

I personally stick with the national HD feeds of CBS, CW, ABC, NBC, ION, MNT, all on DVB-S/S2 with CBS being in 4:2:2 MPEG.

Am I allowed to post where to find them here?

Just read the rules (Forum Rules - SatelliteGuys.US), don't see anything against it, so I'll help those out looking for the major national networks.

CBS is on Galaxy 28 [T4] 3920 V 29860 9/10 8PSK (That's DVB-S2 and in 4:2:2 MPEG2, not many receivers decode that type of mpeg. There are two video PID's on this transponder, one is the east feed and the other is the west feed. All primetime programming can be seen here, but NOT local syndicated programming. During syndication times you will see colorbars. Can catch morning shows, then nothing, then price is right, Y&R, then nothing, then a few afternoon programs, then eve news and primetime programming, then nothing during local news time then the late shows Letterman and Ferguson.)

CW is on Galaxy 28 [T4] 3880 V 32360 3/4 QPSK (That's DVB-S and is normal 4:2:0 MPEG2, but the catch is it's a high bitrate (about 40mbps) that gives some receivers trouble. I don't watch this enough to give a lot of schedule details about it, I mainly watch Smallvile on it which looks nearly BluRay.)

ABC is on Galaxy 16 [G4] 4100 V 30000 9/10 8PSK (That's DVB-S2 and if I remember correctly is in MPEG4/AVC format.)

NBC is on AMC 18 as listed on Lyngsat but it's not encrypted. I don't know why Lyngsat says it is.

You can look for FOX and MNT on Galaxy 16 [G4] 4080 H 27780 5/6 QPSK (DVB-S) I'm not quite sure how it's organized or when what is played.
