I agree with a lot of what is said... before pricing is even discussed I want to see a fully working unit with content. At the currently discussed pricing scheme it's cheaper to buy movies at the corner "video shop" with no problems during viewing.

First word of Fyretv beta testers I signed up and received no response all at
I figured I'd be one of the first because I signed up the first day
is it too late to be a beta tester?

I too got my tracking # and I"m should have my box next week.. I can't wait to put it through the paces!

Speaking of which; has anyone heard of ANYTHING new or ANY updates? This thing is collecting dust and is slowly becoming a paperweight to me. Its FREE for now so it safe, but we need something new guys. New, more current movies/stars or bug fixes.

I would agree.. mine is sitting on top of a shelf right now. They need to fix some of the reported issues as well as add new content to further browse.

I believe they added a few more movies a couple of days ago, but they seriously need to add more content and fix the bugs. Also, a more detailed pricing structure was posted in their forums.

I thought we were supposed to be Beta Tesing the box. You know finding the glitches, so they can be fixed for general release. I guess if you just want to watch porn you will have to wait till the beta test is over.

What content is that and when? Last time I fired it up was about 3 - 5 days ago and everything was the same; menus, bugs; offerings, etc.

OK, still a general comment; can you post something of detail that I can search as I have looked two or three times and still see nothing new in the weeks I have had the device. Posting of titles is not a no-no so no need to worry; if you feel you have a"bad" word in the title just alter it - (like) a$$ho1e.

The problem with "Beta Testing" for Fyre TV

I have some comments about the UI I want to pass on. As a beta tester I have made notes on how I think it should work and where it goes wrong when I try to do what seems to be the natural way of accessing the device.

So having some time this weekend I sit down at my computer and connect to the fyre tv site. Now two weeks ago they had a forum. I read all the posts so I wouldnt be reporting things that others had already reported. But now the button for the forum has been removed. I talked with their online support rep via the site's chat system and he told me they dont have a forum until the product goes live.

In reality it feels almost as if the beta test is solely for PR reasons. Maybe for their stockholders. Maybe for the content providers (movie production companies). I don't know. But every beta I have been in before has had a lot of developer/tester feedback and interaction. For example World of Warcraft testing has developers post "focus testing requests".... example "we just added X feature or monster or event to the game" please go test it on the test realm and tells if it (and here they put what they are looking for).

I haven't seen any requests for focus testing from the developers. And their removal of the forums from the fyre tv site tells me they really aren't interested in feedback from the beta testing group.

So at this point anyone in the beta is just testing it to see if they would pay for it when it goes into production and would they recommend it to their friends. And based on the interaction fyre tv has had so far with their testers I am starting to feel like they are ITVN all over again.

With the 5 or 6 threads all on this same subject I was not sure if anyone had posted this yet and I will post it the threads I see:

I fired up the FyreTV box again tonight with the wife and see a firmware upgrade is D/L. I will try to note anything new or different I see.

Just did the update. Looks like they added a lot more content too. Haven't had too much time to try it out since I did the update. Few things that I've noticed since the upgrade. When you power off the STB, it actually powers off instead of outputting a black screen, they changed their loading logo, and it plays some sort of fast scrolling text when first starting to watch a movie or a scene.

khill and/or charper1;

How long did your update take? I think my download failed out - it started, and the blue progress bar appeared, but it is stuck about 1/4 of the way.

I took the update. Fairly quick install (approx 4-5 mins). The only real issue that I have is the box failing to recognize remote commands. Especially the "back" menu button and sometimes the OK button. Other than that it is running fine.
