I'm actually considering buying the 8ft Fortec BUD from Sadoun. The main reason is cost. Even if I find a dish locally, I may need to invest a lot of money to get it running (actuator, polar mount, etc. ) At least the Fortec Bud comes with a ground stand for starters.

I read that you can get an H to H motor for BUDS. Is this different than the actuator? I couldn't find any info on an H to H motor for a BUD. Thanks

I'm in the same boat ()might get the 6 footer). I think for C-band its an actuator and not a H-H

My buddy is looking for a 6-8' also, he was thinking of the fortec, I told him to contact RPS satellite and he told me that they said they have 8' sold with polar mount, I did not call to confirm but it sounds like it would be worth it to look into.

I got my Patriot 1.1 meter from them a few mounts ago, though I did not set it up yet, it's to cold outside :)

So, if I buy an actuator, what else is needed to make the BUD move? Is the actuator part of the polar mount or is the polar mount something extra that needs to be purchased? I assume a polar mount is more than just large post placed in the ground.

The actuator is the motor drive for the dish to move. It hooks to the polar mount. The polar mount attachs to the dish and has a swivel built into it to allow the arc travel to happen. The polar mount also mounts on a pole and is called a polar mount because it points to the north and south poles. Most C-band dishes come with polar mounts, but most of the Patriot dishes don't, although some do and they are prime focus dishes. I haven't seen any offset dish with a polar mount.

Mike, over at Global Communications has some, new in box, AJAK Patriot H to H mounts for 8ft or smaller dishes, look about half way down the page http://www.global-cm.net/bargains.html. He also provides suggestions if you want to use it on an offset dish, http://www.global-cm.net/AJAKPATRIOTMANUAL.htm.

Although AJAK is no longer in business, their mounts have a reputation for lasting a long time.

www.dvbhardware.com will soon be handling 1.8 and 2.4m dishes with polar mounts that can be used with bud actuators and these are inexpensive. Says they are six panel so don't know if these are prime focus or offset.
