Install I’m working on at a hotel

Yeah 48 channels should be plenty for a hotel. What are you going to do, sit in your room all day watching TV? I'll bet the top few dozen cable channels plus major network locals and the area's RSN(s) account for 98% of all viewing on Directv. If there is "must see" TV you can't get in your hotel, set a recording at home before you leave...

I guess those white pipes are to protect the cables from the elements? If so, should installers do the same thing for homes but with black pipes to match the shingles?

but can the system
auto switch ESPN feeds?
Have RSN overflows?

Of course not, but again this is a hotel. People don't go to hotels to watch TV, it is an extra. I wouldn't be surprised if you start seeing hotels not have TVs at all. It is a lot of money when an increasing number of people will entertain themselves with their phone/tablet and won't turn on a TV even if it is there.

I was at a boutique hotel back in April that only had local channels. They tell you up front to bring a streaming device if you want more. Of course, the view out the balcony was all the show I needed.

Yes that reminds me I was at a hotel outside Zion National Park about 10 years ago that didn't have TVs. It didn't have views (in town not in the park) but obviously most guests are there to be outside in the park and wouldn't view lack of TV as an issue. My girlfriend and I didn't even notice until the second night when we wanted to check the weather for tomorrow and I couldn't get decent reception on my iPhone in the place we were eating dinner so we were gonna check the TV when we got back to the room. Then we got there and realized there was no TV lol

That's a hotel I would not pay to stay in, that's like saying there's no bathroom :biggrin

I have seen a few hotels add ROKU’s and go to a bring your own device model

I guess you haven't been to Europe. Plenty of hotels there that don't have a bathroom in the room, or may have a toilet but not a shower/tub. Instead there's one down the hall shared by multiple rooms.

Ya saw that in National Lampoons European Vacation...

If I have the desire to turn on the TV when I am on vacation, I assume I have done something wrong, probably in the planning stage. When we were in Hawaii in March of 2011, we just happened to turn on the TV the day of the Tohoku earthquake and resulting tsunami because we didn't feel like eating out after a long day exploring Kohala on ATVs. It was quite a surprise to see what was happening. Anyway, it was the seventh day of our vacation and the first time we turned on the TV that trip. I like TV, but it is not something I want to do spend time on when "getting away from it all."

Not everyone at hotel's are on vacation, in fact, unless you're at a resort very few hotel guests are vacationing.

Here in Texas most hotel business is contractors that travel for work.

I'm so impressed with guys who can make wiring look so clean. I have 1 coax on the side of my house that I thought was straight. Looks awful, but I know if I try again, it will look the same. Most can't see it unless they look for it, so I'm OK. Wish I could learn how to make it look right...

I rarely if ever turn on the tv when in a hotel.

If I do turn it on, it’s to figure out what type of setup they have.

The last time I remember turning a Tv on in a hotel was when I was a senior in high school on a trip to NYC.

I figured out how to hack the cable box in the hotel room by doing some master reset procedure to get Free porn.

I knew about this hack because at the time I had a box at my house to get free playboy from the cable company.

Yup, Junior in high school and I was getting free playboy.

Anyways, Word quickly spread among our entire group and the teachers couldn’t figure out why we where all tired the next day.

The hack would have worked the entire trip, except some kids didn’t follow my directions and just bought the PPV adult movies and charged them to the school.

Our teacher wasn’t happy with the $1100 porn bill, and the hotel blocked all the porn channels the next day.

My parents are European, they tell me bathrooms are wherever you want them to be ;)

I recently stayed at a Motel 6 that was about 80% full of people living there full time (and about 50% had pets). At around $1250 a month that includes wired gigabit internet and TV it's cheaper than renting a house now, lol.

It’s the pets that ruin these places.

I have been to a few places where they got monthlies with pets living in them. Most of the rooms stink.

Nothing against Pets, but they don’t belong in small hotel rooms.
