Hello folks, well my luck ran out last week with a nasty thunderstorm and after 39 years here, finally took a hit. Now, the FTA receivers I had for some years worked great until now. Recently picked up a fairly cheap receiver, online, KOQIT and seems to be good, but for the life of me, I cannot get the HDMI output to work with 3 of my Samsung monitors. I can hook it up to my Samsung TV and its HDMI input and it works fine. The 2 receivers I lost also worked fine with them, so am I going crazy? anyone have come across this or have any suggestions? And, since this is a somewhat cheap unit but works, what is everyone out there using for receivers these days? without breaking the bank? I enjoy watching FTA TV, so I will invest more if needed, what is a really good, detailed unit these days. I'm so use to watching a few of them HD channels. Right now I'm down to composite hookups, yuck! Any help or info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Frank

My first thought is the lightning damaged the HDMI ports if the receivers were lost if connected during event. If another device is connected for testing such as a DVD player or similar, does the HDMI operate as designed?

Perhaps the KOQIT STB is set to a video resolution outside of what the monitor can display is another possible reason.

Hi, oh, I had a GTMedia receiver that I enjoyed using, that one I used the HDMI on the same monitors and all was fine. My monitors are fine, the GTMedia receiver and power supply both were hit, thru the power surge. The KOQIT receiver is "Brand new", my replacement, that's the one I cannot get the HDMI to work on my 2 Samsung monitors, it does work on my Samsung TV in the loving room HDMI connection no issues. Just these monitors for some reason. Either it flashes, or on for a second, pink screen, or just nothing, black screen. Monitors are only 2 years old.

Oh, with all the kind members out here, share what receivers you are using, I have seen some nice images that show some pretty good signal info on the screen, would spend a bit more if I had to in order to get a mid range, nicer unit that won't give me any issues and work to whatever I hook up to it. Anyone?

When the KOQIT receiver is connected via the HDMI to a monitor it operates with, what AV settings are selected in the setup menu? Refresh rate also is a consideration if set to 50 Hz as well. A mode such as 576i, 576p, 2160p if 4K may not work. Try something like 720p- 60 Hz for example as a baseline to start.

A quality known working HDMI cable if available to test with. Best practice to only disconnect and reconnect with the devices on each end powered off. HDMI port electronics are sensitive to transient power surges particularly on equipment without grounded power cords.

Well believe or not, with all the frustration I have been dealing with replacing damaged items in the house from a lightning hit, after my GTMedia FTA recevier and power supply went, I failed to check the monitor that was hooked up to it. Assuming it was just the unit, my PC has 2 HDMI outputs, thinking about it, I put my second output on that monitor and sure enough, the HDMI is gone, won't detect the monitor on the PC. I put the new FTA unit on another monitor which is my security system and there it was, the KOQIT receiver was on the screen, what a relief, but feel like a dum ass for not checking that. Now looking for a good, quality, USA FTA to invest in beside this model, any recommendations? Today was spent changing out the pool pump timer that blew and replacing the security DVR system that was damaged. Thanks

I'm using a GT media v9 Prime, but they're no longer sold new. Which is unfortunate as its my favorite, super easy to use and intuitive. I bought a couple more luckily before they quit selling them, so I have backups for a while hopefully. I was not impressed with the Amiko 4K unit as far as functionality, haven't tried any others.

Same here, I had the GT media V8 pro, for some years, good unit and easy to use and never a issue. Ya, what happened out there? when I got into FTA some years ago, FTA receviers were everywhere to be had, now its just older ones, or new ( old stock) ones out there. There are some listed in some sites, but from over seas and shipping is insane along with the time frame to get it, dam tarrifs.
That was the reason I had asked what everyone is using out there that are good ones and see what was still out there. Can mostly tell a old stock one, no HDMI port, either S-Video or Composite. Thanks !

I am using a Geosat 3500 and love it! I too am curious about the Koquit. I may buy one! $35 on Ebay!

Thanks, glad to see one receiver model out there that someone likes and use, was curious to see what folks are happy with and using. The KOQIT is ok, the remote started acting up and doesn't work now, but the front 4 buttons work. I've been trying to find a GTMedia one, like the one I had that was hit by the power surge. Or even the Hello unit, both were good receivers. Sold the Hello Box to a friend along with a 36 inch offset dish. A few directions and he was up and running, locked on G19 within a half hour and loves it. I've updated to a 39 inch and newer LNB, just need a decent receiver to go with it now. Thank you

i use 2 Edision MIO receivers, those are Enigma (Linux based) receivers and are more complex but more capable than the typical set-top boxes. I also have an Amiko mini HD re set top receiver. Happy with all of them, but I don't think that any of them are currently available in the US, and ordering from overseas no longer seem like a viable option.

As far as reputable resellers, the list is shrinking fast... We had 3 great resellers among our frequent forum members and I don't think any of them are selling receivers anymore.

You might want to check out the stuff at Rick's: Ricks Satellite Satellite Receivers
He seems to be a well established reseller.

Ya, that's for sure, hard to find anything new within our borders, a lot of legacy units out there. I just want to make sure I get something fairly up to date so I can get all the channel formats. I can get them overseas, at a pretty penny with shipping. I have seen some of them Amiko's out there and the Enigma ones as well. My GTMedia 8 pro I had ran good for some years, never had an issue with it, can get them, but from overseas still. I will check out Ricks site, thanks for the info!

The hd one that does hvec.265. I got in on ebay for $55
Once you receive your new receiver, it would benefit others if you can give an operator's report to confirm if the unit's performance matches the advertised specifications. Also it would be good to know the final accounting after all (any?) import duties, tariffs, etc. are paid.

I had gotten the K1 model, works pretty good, but the remote started acting up, Still have volume up/down and channel up/down buttons on the front of it so usable. I just ordered up the KOQIT V5 H.265 unit as well. Hoping the remote works with both units. But still looking for a medium level unit as well. I pulled up youtube for videos for 2026 rated FTA units, this was one of them for the highest interest of 5 units. FreeSat was another one. One that that burns me is I cannot receive them 6/7 channels that were on the SES 2 and moved to G19, even had a higher video signal too. I'm only pulling in about 42% right now due to the trees. I know normally I get almost 100 channels, only getting about 50 right now. The news feeds on then 7 channels are great to receive. Frank

...Hoping the remote works with both units...
I have two GT Media receivers. I discovered the different remote controllers share common codes. At first, this was a pain since the receivers sit beside each other. But I adopted the habit of only having one receiver powered at a time. To change the receiver that I'm using, I press the power button on either remote controller. This powers down one receiver and powers up the other receiver. Repeating this does the opposite. I can then continue sending commands with the correct controller for whichever receiver is powered.

:oldsmile2 Before I sold my HELLO receiver, I had that one and my GTMedia both on, the cable coming in was split with a DC Block on one lne so I could run different channels on each one from the same Sat, but when I changed the channel on one, the menu came up on the other one. Had to space them out. I have that newer version of KOQIT coming and just got another GTMedia 8 coming now.

Where did all the feeds go?

Anyone have a spare motor to sell or any suggestions?
