L3.49 for the ViP211 receivers

Yeah sounds like they fixed the snow screen with the L.430.

Thank God. Unfortunately, it only went out to 94 receivers. I hope to get it by next week at least:

so what are the latest versions for the 211 ? Is it L3.49 and now L4.30 ? Last time I checked a few days ago i had 3.49 and had the snow screen once. It has been fine ever since.

We now have L4.40. I don't really care what's out there as long as it fixes the HDMI problem. From the Tech. Portal:

8/15/2007: 1001 Software Version L4.40 for ViP 211/ DISH 411

Effective Thursday, August 16th, Engineering plans to spool a PARTIAL PHASE of software version L4.40 for the ViP 211/ DISH 411 receiver. This is primarily a non-forced maintenance release available at ALL satellite locations.
At this time L3.49, L4.40 will be the valid software versions for the ViP 211/ DISH 411.

I still have 3.45. Don't know why I don't have the new update(s). I usually get the updates the first day they are released. Maybe E* is mad at me? I have tried both hard and soft boots.

L.430 Still Apparently HDMI Problems?

New to the forum - but, wanted to report I have a 211 that for about 2 months (June 6 2007 until about the 1st week or so of August) was bulletproof with my Philips 42" LCD (ambilight version). Then, got the intermittent signals over HDMI - black screen, in and out, sometimes a green or statis screen for a second... with some plugging/unplugging of the connector would seem to work ok for a while... just to go out again.

Had the same wife & kids issues that Randal had! They want to return the damned thing!

Got a replacement 211 yesterday - installed and had the same problems.

Read the forum - got caught up - called the dish people to have them confirm a software issue.

The new receiver has the L.430 FW in it.

Seems like the system is most sensitive to this problem when changing the output mode (resolution) - esp going to 1080i. Seems most likely based on what I've observed that an HDMI software issue is at play - but, I did read about the poor soldered HDMI connectors (surface mount) that were not stress relieved very well - seemed to be messages on such from late 2006; has that issue been resolved completely and is everyone pretty comfortable that this is a software issue to be resolved soon with new post L.430 FW? The rep said that they were "working on it"?

HW issue has been resolved by using different HDMI connector with a screw - so check rear panel at top of HDMI slot if the screw is there. Or post a picture of the spot here.

skc,

Has your new receiver had HDMI problems with L4.30? I'm on L3.49 and I've had the HDMI problem 3 times now but I don't know if L4.30 fixed it since I don't have it yet.

BTW, my 211 never had any problems with the HDMI port and I've used it on 2 different TVs for over a year now. So I know it's not my hardware but a software issue.

Thanks, I tried that, but still on 3.45. Have no idea what's what, but maybe I am better off. I was hoping for better OTA connectivity, but I guess I will have to wait a little longer to see if others report such.

Dont feel bad, i have 2-211's and they are both on L-345 .
I also ran check switch, and reboots, didnt do anything.
I get my updates everynite @ 3am, turn the box off at nite, etc.

HDMI woes

Yes - the replacement receiver I got did have the L4.30 code (if i read it right from the system info screen) and it DID still have the problem.

Hmm I will half to check but I have not gotten the L4.30 yet still on the 3.49 and only had the snow screen for twice. Will let folks know once I get the 4.30 if I have any issues.

Just got a call from E*. They are going to upgrade my 211 to 622 on Dish 'N Up 100 back. Will be installed on Monday. I guess I will be with E* for another 18 months afterall.

HDMI Problem Information

 Well - looks like some "fairly repetitive" behavior for getting this problem to repeat and then correct on the 211 w/ L430 FW:

With the problem occurring (intermittent loss of signal to TV over HDMI), I can hit the receiver "Power On/Off" button on the remote and wait for 5 or so seconds - then hit it again (just cycling it) - need to cycle at least twice before I get a stable signal. I leave the TV on this whole time.

Once stable, if I turn the TV off - and back on - the problem immediately comes back. Looks to me like it's the initial HDMI handshaking (referred to on an earlier post somewhere) when the two devices are first ON together. Once the TV goes OFF when it comes back ON, apparently it "can't get initialized properly" with the receiver?

Maybe (purely guessing of course) when the receiver is power cycled (while the TV is on) there is a better chance that it can initialize correctly? Seems to be 2 power cycles is the magic number so far - don't know if that's just luck though...

Good luck DN coders - please resolve quickly as this is a pain in the rump!

BTW - I did get a free month of HBO out of a call to the DN folks (for what that's worth - hope I can remember to cancel it next month)!

My HDMI worked fine for the first several days with my replacement receiver and L4.30. Unfortunately, I will not be able to check again for some time as my HD set is in the shop for unrelated problems.

Now if you want information about how the 211 interfaces with an Admiral 27" SD set with only a coax input... :(
