L4.41 Software

I have a 622 and I have not received the updates.

Does DishCOMM only work with the new receivers or with what model does it start?

Thanks.

EDIT- Answer to my question

"DishCOMM works with the ViP622 with L401 software and is coming to the ViP211."

Well you might take them out of the UPS see what happen.

He said that he had them connected to a UPS, but wanted to try them without so he took them out. Sometimes I wonder if you even read the full posts before responding.

My router tells me the box is periodically making http requests to 205.172.147.51 and 63.246.23.135.

The first one is DISH Network -- Home but I'm not sure about the second.

I guess it's about time to fire up a packet sniffer and a port scanner and see what's going on.

GOD, where's a ho when you need one? Dish doesn't love me cause I didn't get the update! oh WELL, I'll watch my ITVN 150 porn channels and find love there!

Yes I read what he said "plugged into a serge protector. (Both were plugged into a UPS"" so to me at first it sounded like he had tried two different sets of serge protectors. So I miss understood which does have happen.

That domain is owned by E*. Maybe they're going to reuse the ip in the future (as was suggested by RandallA)?

Does anyone else find the new text on top of the guide very annoying? I'm referring to the alternating between date/time and "Press Guide to go to All HD". This may be very nitpicky, but I often glance up to see the time while I'm browsing the guide and now I often glance up and see a message telling me what happens when I press the Guide button. I already know what happens when I press Guide and have known for years. I just want to know what time it is!

See my comment earlier. I find it annoying as heck.

I hope Dish loses that piece of info, or has a way through preferences to turn it the heck OFF.

On the network traffic, if it is checking every 30 seconds, that must be so that the receiver can download any new remotely scheduled shows. (I'm assuming you schedule the shows via dishonline.com when that function is released next month or so, then the receiver downloads the additional list of shows to record.)

Some of the look of dishonline.com changed in the past two days, but there still isn't anywhere to plug in your receiver or account information. That part must be on hold until September except for beta testers. I'm still surprised that dishonline.com used its own user accounts, but I guess this makes sense if you want different family members to remotely control different receivers, without being able to touch your billing information.

Has anyone tried using a web browser or port-scanned their unit yet? It would neat if you could just web right into your receiver to schedule shows. (Then you could setup remote access to the web interface through your home router.) Even if there wasn't a scheduling interface, at least you could remotely delete shows, something you likely can't do once dishonline.com goes completely live.

Even better, if you could remotely web-view shows through your receiver using a slingbox-like interface. (probably not something they are willing to work on yet due to DRM concerns, but it would be neat to have.)

I thought about that feature too. Probably it isn't enabled yet but it might be coming. I'm at work so can't test it.

anyone tried it?

Yes, nothing.

I thought I would love the folder feature, but I hate it. Why? Because I like my recordings sorted by date, and when you group them into folders, everything gets sorted by name with no way to change it. What I would like to see is the folders all placed at the top and then the rest of the list sorted according to the user's preference. Who do I email about this?

I also find it amusing that one of the screensaver messages gives the number to call to activate external hard drives, not noting that users should wait til next week. Typical Echostar communication skills!

It seems to me then that it would be fair game to give them a call and see what happens. I know, I know, we are supposed to wait till the 15th, but someone should be a guinea pig and see what happens when you call about it.:hungry:

L441 killed my HDMI connection, just like L409 did (came back when they reverted to L405).

HDMI test shows HDMI enabled on the Dish STB side = FALSE. I've tried a couple of hard reboots but it won't flip back to TRUE.

TV is an older Samsung TSN3084WHD (DVI input).

Any suggestions?
