I've been using my receiver with the HD set to non native so everything is in 1080i. Would I benefit greater setting native and letting the receiver change resolution for each signal?

I set both of our receivers, 1-HR20-700 & 1-HR21-700, to native on and only 1080i output, all channels look great and swithcing channels is also faster.

I would set it to whatever your TV is capable of, if it's a 720p panel, set it for that, it all eventually gets changed back to 720P in this case anyways as that is what the TV is capable of.

Okay well my TV does NTSC 480i 480p 720p and 1080i, so what would be the best way to set up my HR20? Native or none etc?

What is the NATIVE resolution of your TV, find that out and then turn native off and try that resolution on the HR20. If you like that picture then you're done, if not try the other HD resolution (720p and 1080i are HD, 480p is ED and 480i is SD) and see if you like that better.

From what info I can find in online reviews of it, JVC HD-52Z575, its Native is 720p

So then 1st try 720p on the HR20 to see if the TV does a better job of upscaling then the HR20, then try 1080i to see if the set downscales better then the HR20 does and pick whatever looks best to you.

So, if I understand the process right I go into settings and turn Native on and then under resolution turn off everything but 740p? Try it out and see how things look. Is that correct?

Yes try it with 720p only enabled and then native resolution on. THen try 1080i only enabled and see what looks best to you.
