Greetings All,

For the past year or so, I have received WVIT on RF Channel 33 with no issues. This is an ATSC v3 station out of Hartford, CT.
There are also 4 other stations transmitting streams on this channel.

As of this past Saturday, the following message is display on my Sony TV when I attempt to tune WVIT:

"Cannot view channel because the TV's licence is being updated or
another problem has occurred"

This message also shows up on one other stream (WFSB). The other stations all receive with no issues.

I Have checked the signal level of Ch 33 with a spectrum display, and it appears to be OK.
My location IS is a bit of a fringe area for reception (Marlboro, NY),
but up until this issue, I've been able to receive CT. stations without too much trouble
(NYC stations are blocked by mountains).

Unfortunately, I do not have any other device available to tune ATSC v3 to determine if this is a station or TV issue.

Any ideas what is going on?

Thanx.

Richard Rosa

The ATSC 3 versions of WVIT and WFSB are coming in fine for me. I am about 8 miles away from the tower.

I checked on my Sony TV which has a ATSC 3.0 tuner. I also checked on my HD Homerun and both are showing as Encrypted. But the other ATSC 3.0 channels are coming in fine on it which are not Encrypted.

If I understand this correctly, WVIT & WFSB are now encrypted? Does this mean they will be charging for reception? This does not sound good.
I get so few OTA signala here as it is...

Thanx.

They have both been encrypted for about 6 months now. If you are not getting them and were before today I am guessing the weather (snow) may have something to do with it. But we will be back in the 50's on Monday so it should ome back for you. :)

They were being received up until last Saturday (12/20) when the message started appearing when the station was tuned. So I don't think it is weather related.
I spent several hours checking all the antenna connections when my Wife mentioned that she could no longer get the NBC news broadcasts :-(
The signal level does NOT look any different from what it was two weeks ago.
Unfortunately with Digital (and especially v3) it is difficult at best to determine if there are reception issues or content issues.

Thanx for the info.

The company I work for owns the antenna on Rattlesnake Mountain where those ATSC 3.0 signals come from. I will check with Joe tomorrow and see if he knows if they made any changes to their encoder.

Looking at thing it appears they chaned WFSB from 1080p to 720p over a week ago.

I would delete those channels from your system and then do a rescand and see if that helps.

I will let you know what Joe has to say. (If he knows)

Thanx for the suggestion. Unfortunately, this set does not allow for removal of individual channels,
so a COMPLETE rescan was required.

It was a nice idea, but still didn't fix the issue with the two streams...

What is frustrating is that about a year or so ago, WVIT & WFSB v1.0 channels were strong, and
easily received. Now WFSB (Ch 36) only comes in sporatically, and WVIT (ch 31) has some sort of
interference that makes it hard to watch.

It's doubly annoying as I do not watch TV.
I'm more interested in the other sections of the Radio Spectrum...
This is for my technologically challenged Wife, who does NOT do computers or streaming :(

Looking forward to what Joe has to suggest..

Thanx.

Richard,
What ATSC v3 Sony TV do you have? Is it connected to the Internet? It sounds like an older device and the station updated their encryption keys, now your device can't decode them without an update on its own.

Check online for an update for your tv's system. Maybe there's a new one that'll fix it. It IS connected to the internet, correct? You are using a tv set with a 3.0 tuner, and out an outside 3.0 tuner device?

Not sure older ATSC 3 equipment can ever be updated to the still changing ATSC 3 standard.
