NFL 2022

So does the NFL have an emergency QB in the stands player like the NFL does with goaltenders? :D

Granted, they probably could put anyone in at that point as they'd be only running the football. Interesting situation with The Pats. See how Zappe manages with the practice this week and where he stands play call wise. I doubt we see a second Brady come to form here, that'd be crazy. But would like them to at least be competent on offense. Defense knows a lot rides on them.

*24 hrs later... Well imagine that, Pats win 56-52.*

Second round pick Tyquan Thornton has been taken off IR and will make his NFL debut today. It will be interesting to see how many targets he gets. The Patriots suddenly have a very crowded WR room, Meyers, Parker, Agholor, Bourne, Humphrey and now Thornton. Lil’Jordan would be the obvious choice to sit, but the Pats LOVE Humphrey’s blocking skills. Either way it’s good to have Thornton in the fold, the Pats could use his plus speed.

Just heard that the Patriots will dress all 6 WR’s. Expect to see plenty of play action with Harris and Stevenson to keep the heat off Zappe.

Giants knock off the Packers in London and are now 4-1.
Methinks the Packers need to change defensive co-ords. I saw some D-line alignements today that made absolutely no sense. Let's see, the Giants have goal to go inside the 5 and Barkely in the backfield so somebody please explain 3 down linemen in that situation. Seriously? How about Jones rolling to his right all day and the Packers DE crashing down the line every time. EVERY TIME! After you get burned 3 or 4 times wouldn't ya think you'd figure it out but he was still doing it on the last Giant's drive of the game. Good grief! Whatever happened to professional football? Gonna be a long season in GB this year.

This!!! 1,000x this!! We’re not even 5 weeks into the season, and it’s already one of the most unpredictable seasons I can remember. Yes, I picked the Ravens and Eagles as my Super Bowl teams, but that’s hardly a safe bet. Even the two presumptive power teams- Bills and Chiefs- have shown some vulnerabilities that can show up on any given week. I think this is going to be a season to remember.

Near the end of the game today, the announcers mentioned that Bailey Zappe is the 15th different QB to start for Bill Belichick in his 28 year head coaching career. I got all 9 QB’s from his 23 years with the Patriots right away. That meant there was 6 different QB’s that started in BB’s 5 years as HC of the Browns. Bernie Kosar and Vinny Testaverde were obvious. I came up with one more before I had to use Google and that was Mike Tomczak. That left 3 other QB’s that started for the Browns when Belichick was head coach- Todd Philcox, Mark Rypien and Eric Zeier (I guess Zappe isn’t last on the list alphabetically after all ).

Here’s the entire list chronologically from 1991 to present:

Browns (6) - Bernie Kosar, Mike Tomczak, Todd Philcox, Vinny Testaverde, Mark Rypien and Eric Zeier

Patriots (9)- Drew Bledsoe, Tom Brady (almost forgot about him ), Matt Cassel, Jimmy Garoppolo, Jacoby Brissett, Cam Newton, Brian Hoyer, Mac Jones and Bailey Zappe

Meanwhile, the guy that might have been feared dead in the Pats v Lions game doesn't have neck injury... now in concussion protocol. The funny thing is how little past event press this had. They had an ambulance on the field as well as having family come from the stands! OMG!!! But then he flew back with the team.

Something happened, and no one seems to know what. In the replay, he seemed to lose control of himself or consciousness. He seemed to fall and become listless. He didn't appear to suffer from actual contact. So that leads one to think heart or brain. Hopefully he is fine, but it seems like he needs to see a few specialists.
