OK, boys and girls, here (isn't) the software news we have all been waiting for

Sometimes movie channels show a preview of their channel for a couple of days, they play all first run Blockbuster hit movies one after another...then you subscribe and are stuck watching 75% "B" movies and original series;).

Thank you for contacting VOOM.
We have already started to push our new firmware upgrade. If have
not already received the upgrade then you should receive it in the
next couple weeks...

Hey a "couple weeks" is the same old 2 weeks, right???????????????

As far as the moderators not knowing, I have not seen them denying this yet, have you? ;)

In the infamous words of Sgt Schultz, I know nothing. For folks that have the update they don't know when it is coming out more generally, for the rest of us I don't see it being pushed in anything resembling a wave or group. I'm terrified :))) not to reboot.

Any thoughts on doing a factory reset causing the new software to load replacing the old software?

Does anyone else think it a bit odd that absolutely no one who didn't get a new box has the software update yet?

I got Voom installed 5 days ago. Not sure if I have a new box (Motorola DSR550) When I check my version - I get "Secure Firmware Version V16" . The installation was a nightmare here in Queens, NY - but thanks to help of many Voomers here I was able to bring things back to normal. Voom installs was also great after I reported a problem.
I needed to correct a weak signal on the OTA (77) left by installer that left me with only a few local channels viewable here in NYC area. After doing an OTA channel scan (new software?) I was able to lock in the signal at 98 by trying different RF values - much better that a paltry 78. Then I checked the signal strength on the dish. It said a minimum of 85 required in order to avoid weather related problems - but mine only read 79. I rotated the dish (amazing to be able to manipulate a satellite from your sofa!) and was able to lock in at 92 (is it%?). When I mentioned all this to Installs CSR - he told me these are pretty good numbers - Was also wondering how I can get Channel 13 and UHF channels in my area? (Rego Park, NY). The tiny Winegard antenna is in line of sight of Empire Stae Bldg. No nearby obstructions and only 6 miles away. Should I try a different antenna? Will an old antenna also pull in an HD signal?
Is this Winegard antenna only VHF? Any recommendations? Thanks- Marty in NY

I dont know why I am looking forward to the update-- scanning for channels aint gonna get me anything new. It might be cool to see if I am close to receiving anything--maybe some antenna tweaking may be needed. right now I get ABC+UPN over the air-- Comcast cable gives me "the big three" while FOX cannot be had OTA nor casble--thank you very much VOOM + FOX for a great all star game,BTW. WILL THIS SOFTWARE RESET GIVE US A SNAZZIER PG? MENUS THAT DONT LOOK LIKE 1970?? IF OTA SCAN IS THE BIG THING HERE-- THIS WILL BE A DISAPPOINTMENT. I WANT MY VOOMPVR !!!!!!!!!!

Getting rid of the microstutters should be a big step in the right direction. OTA scanning will not help me either, but it will allow me to hide a few channels that I can't even receive. Hopefully they will make the Program Planner default to Power On.

Sounds like the new factory installed software, except for the "rotated the dish" thing. Are you telling me that your dish in installed on a motorized mount that allows you to physically rotate the dish from your remote and not have to go outside? That sounds very improbable.

The Saga Continues...

I have been told by Voom, since July 10th (7 days now), that the firmware update is being pushed et al...however, nobody in the contiguous US has received them. I can not stand double-talk, rhetoric, and liars!

Has anyone received this update?

...where's the firmware update? We (the collective masses) have been
waiting since May...and then June...and then 4 July...and then 10
July when the firmware update was supposedly being pushed by Voom
(this is according to Voom E-mail Support). Anyway, where is the
firmware update?
Thanks!!!!!

Thank you for contacting VOOM.
That is a very good question, we are pushing the firmware in batches
by the U/A number, so we do not have an exact date. I would suggest
putting your receiver in standby mode (by pressing the SAT button) at
night when you go to sleep, that way your receiver will be able to
download the update when your batch is pushed. If you have any
further questions please give us a call at 1-800-GET-VOOM and once
again thank you for contacting VOOM - HDTV Delivered!

this matter. Currently the process up updating the firmware is
regional. We are making efforts in being sure that everyone receivers

can provide would be greatly appreciated.

I dont think that they are pushing the update yet if you think about it other than people saying they are getting it in new box's no one is claiming they have it. If people where getting it It would be all over this forum and we would not need to ask if someone is getting it. Personally myself I would rather have the buggy beta version now than to have to wait for them to straighten out the bugs. As I do not get any of my locals because my mapping (mapping idea was not a good one to begin with) has never been done yet.

OK - how will we know when it arrives? Will the "current software version" change from V.00.05.68? To what? I thought I heard somewhere that it wouldn't, but another field would. Or - are there other obvious changes we should look for?

All will be revealed once somebody actually gets an update. Currently the only ones to receive the update are people that have been getting new service installed or replacing their existing box. It appears that no one has actually had the new firmware pushed out over satellite yet.
