Now that I have seen and read his confession. I really hope that he is well received in St. Louis. I truly believe he is one of the nicest men in sports. Now, do I think he would have broken Maris's record WITHOUT PEDs.??...not really, but we will never know. Do I think he would have STILL hit over 500 home runs WITHOUT PEDs...? Yep...absolutely. His swing was catered to hit the long ball, even after he shortened it.

How?? He claimed he was a "walking M*A*S*H unit" at the time he started taking steroids and needed them to go on. It was so bad he told his Dad he was considering retiring. Do you really think he would have had a 17-year career without them??

I think the PEDs help with longevity way more then power! The prof is in the pudding. More games played is more chances to hit. Mac was always a home run hitter he could never play a full season without injury.

You mention the watered down talent pool which is saying it indirectly.
But he got more home runs per at bat after going on steroids. It's not just longevity. It's physics - McGwire bulks up, stronger, swings the bat faster, so more momentum is transferred from the bat to the baseball, so the baseball goes farther. Doesn't change how well he hits a baseball, just changes how far it goes.

Ah NO you give it a rest! The talent pool was watered down! I did not bring up RACE! I said not all were allowed to play. In which all these so called greats got false records! You brought up RACE! Base Ball has been cheats from the get go! From booze to coke! Yea speed helped these old timers to. So did playing against a lesser talent.
This is true i still think since he could play more games and healthier doing so really helped more then power. That and the year he hit 70 pitchers were throwing him meat pitches. Heck feeling better gives any one more power.
You could say Josh Gibson's records were tainted, because he played against lesser talent too. Not everybody in the Negro Leagues was an all-star. Same with the MLB pre-Jackie Robinson. It's not fair to label one league's records tainted and not the other.

You need to stop saying I am pulling the "race card" when I am not. You started this not me. I said in my first post that you were right, but this is not the thread to discuss it.
The sad thing about this is not every player juiced. We just don't know who did and didn't . But when I saw those Home Run Numbers I knew something was up. I didn't know if it was the baseballs, the bats or what but something was wrong. Really sad that the whole era is tarnished, as it should be .

WHY??!! Because I do not agree with YOU??!! Please.... YOU don't think if Mantle and Ruth had steroids...they wouldn't have used it? They didn't give a ratz a$$ about records...they wanted to win by ANY MEANS necessary. They use to have spies in centerfield with binoculars to see if they could read signs from the catcher or manager. Don't know about you...but THAT was cheating. They use to have pitchers doctor up balls for years until it was banned....THAT was cheating.
I have given you plenty of proof just by the single list on the Mitchell report. PLENTY of Mendoza line hitters that steroids did little to NOTHING to improve their stats. For every McGuire, I give you a couple of Dave Seguis and Dave Roberts.
