Hello,

A search of this entire site for "SkyTech" produced zero results.

Have anyone heard of these guys:

http://www.skytechusa.com/

I noticed all these products made by other companies, with the SkyTech name stuck in front, e.g. "SkyTech 2700A". However, the boxes and products all say SkyTech on them.

Are these what people call "clones" ?

If so, I wonder who actually makes the dishes ?

just 20 minutes away

(except at rush-hour)

They are located in Southern California, in what you might call a suburb of Los Angeles.
Different county, so not really true, but the build-up around LA goes on for a 50 mile radius.
All sorts of little industrial parks everywhere, mixed in with housing, shopping, et al.

I'll try to drive by in a few days and get to know them.
Maybe take some pictures of 'em.

It's good to have member-spies all over the country, isn't it? :eureka

I notice they have a 120cm polar mount dish (SK120-P/PM) with an actuator, that looks interesting. Clicking on it's picture leads you to the Fortec site, and this dish is not on the Fortec site. I can't figure out how to get to a price or how to order? It also has the clear dish (as seen in Europe) SK55T-PW/W or SK75T-PW/W. Clicking on this picture also takes you to the Fortec site, and they don't have this dish either? Interesting website, but useless!

Their " Extreme " receiver , looking at the picture of the back , appears to be a clone of the Viewsat Extreme .

Just checked out their 90cm and 120 cm dish , nice that the 90cm dish has additional support for LNB, nice aftermarket for Fortec if a Manufacturer would make an accesory for the LNB arm, would reduce some sway with heavy winds.

2700A definitely looks like clone with their nameplate on box, I wonder about price ? I hate to hear stories about people paying same or close for a clone.

The UPS Store

Sorry this took so long.
They're more like 40 minutes away, not 20.
The store is located up the 55 freeway from the 91, off @ Yorba Linda, then east less than a mile.
See the picture below for their storefront.

The guy who handles FTA doesn't come in 'till 2pm, so if you want to visit or call, you might consider that.
They apparently have just the two receivers on their web site.
I'd have to guess they are clones.

I asked about dishes, and basically they sell for about a $1 per centimeter.
So, a 45cm is around $45, and the 60, 75, 90, and 120cm are similarly priced.
I asked if the 120 was a Fortec Star, but was told it had the SkyTech name on it.
Clone. OEM? I don't know.
I couldn't get a good story on the mount for the 120.

This place is not conveniently located for me to visit weekdays.
If I were craving a 90cm or 120cm dish, I might see about local pickup.
If anyone in the L.A. area is looking to avoid shipping, I suggest you do your own follow-up and get more info.
I'm not certain when I'll be in the area again.

Yes, this is what it's like in L.A. in the winter.

And what size dishes are those on top of the stone columns - and what orbital slot are they looking at as the arc seems mighty steep? :D
Those are collectors... uhhh...yea... that's it... :)
We don't have snow, but they do collect the minimal rain water.
How else do you expect the shrubbery to stay green as you see it is?

You must not have heard! This was in a recent Satellite News article. There is a new arc that has just been started, and there are two birds in the arc right now. It is geostationary just like the one above the equator. Should open up a whole new world for folks that do not have line-of-sight to the current arc. :):D :D :D

Is this to be for communications satellites? There are actually MANY satellites up there that are not parked in geosynchronous orbit over the equator. Example of this is the GOES fleet.

I'd be very wary of this site, including the 120cm dish. In reading the specs I don't believe it has a polar mount. I also don't trust a company that can't spell or use proper grammer! "A fool and his money............................."

L.A. drive-by shooting

If anyone has called for a price, and is thinking about buying, I might take another drive by and shoot more pictures.
But it's not particularly convenient, so unless you've talked to them already, I'm not likely to swing by again.

I purchased SKYTECH 2700 from ebay. this site does not have any kind of support. the "TO TV" terminal was broken. they wouln't repair or replace it. Please be carful when you deal with them, bad customer service
