Does anyone else have problems with the sound level from directv. My sound level changes, when watching a show and then a commercial comes on the sound will be louder.

That is actually normal if I am not mistaken and comes directly from the braodcasters not D*...Someone correct me if I am wrong please...You will also notice a difference if a program is in Dolby Digital vs. Dolby Surround. Digital is always lower at least in my experience...

Just remember, the commercials can be as loud as the loudest part of a show (IE - if there is a gunshot in the show, the commercial can be all played at the sound level of the gunshot......)

Of course. It is obvious. A commercial needs to get your attention. All sources have the same range of volume they can exploit. Say, on a scale of 1 to 10, the show, if it's an action show, will plan that the most dramatic, loud sound will be at volume 10. Everything else is balanced off of that. For a commercial, they want to get your attention immediately, and wake you up if need be, so they blast the volume (and accept the clipping).
