As far as the progenitor's story arc is concerned... I could sum up the finale in two words: never mind! Why bother with a 5th season at all with a finale like this?

Man oh man. Did I mention I was really disappointed?
This was going to be a major story arc for season 6, if there had been one. Since they decided to cancel the show I have a feeling that they filmed the spots about older Admiral Michael and Book being together with their son getting promoted to captain in order to wrap it all up.
They also wrapped up a story line of a Star Trek short film from 2018,where a guy named Craft finds the old Discovery ship a thousand years in the future, where Admiral Michael leaves it at the end of this finale and he meets Zora the A.I. computer and they work together to accomplish something then. So this was a wrap up of that short film. It brought the story back to where it began.
I liked the finale and enjoyed how well Michael turned out. She came a long way both literally and physically in time- like a thousand years. She saved Star Fleet & the Federation almost single handedly - with her crew's assist at times. She helped them solve "the Burn" issues and the problems with dilithium crystles so they could warp again.
Michael was a hero. I love a strong female hero. Like Admiral Katherine Janeway of Voyager - got her crew home from the delta quadrant, by going back in time when she was much older and an Admiral, to help her younger self a Captain, shave years off the trip home. The older Admiral Janeway gave up her life to get her crew and younger self home years sooner than originally and destroyed the Borg - by infecting them with a virus she injected into herself, so when the queen assimilated her , it would destroy all of them. Brilliant!
