Star Trek: Strange New Worlds

Yeah, ok, I get it, money is always the bottom line, but at the same time, they've always had 20+ episodes per season on TV. So, they go to streaming and cut us down to 10 episodes (or even as low as 8) and so now they're going to end the show after 5 seasons, with only 5 eps? C'mon, that's ripping the subscriber off!

And Academy sounds like a bottle show. No ships, no battles, no alien bad guys. Just a buncha youth in SF. Might as well just call it "Star Trek: 90210 (redux)". Gimme a break...

Not gonna get 20 episodes a season with the budgets of these shows, nor do they need that many. I know there are people that can recite every line of every episode of the various Star Trek series, but half of those episodes weren't that great.

That pretty much came to a screeching halt with the advent of shows going direct to streaming.

Disco started with 15 episodes and worked its way down to ten. Picard and Lower Decks were each ten episodes per season.

Yep, and most of the Star Wars-related shows and MCU-related shows have been only 8 episodes each. It's rather sad to see a "season" of a series only 8-10 hours (relatively speaking) of screen time.

Disco started out with quite a bang, but by the third season, it had become the Burnham saves the day show, and that got old rather fast. Picard was more enjoyable, particularly seasons 1 & 3. SNW had a great first season and bit of an uneven second season. I'm really hoping that season 3 matches (or exceeds) season 1.

To be aired in 2030 I'll bet...

They did everything they could to kill this one. Short seasons to start with, and then ending on a cliff-hanger, and not coming back for two YEARS? What a bunch of idiots.
Yep, that seems to be their thinking by delaying two years (adding in the strike delays). However, I'm still planning on watching part 1 of the cliff-hanger this weekend sometime to get it in before s3 starts next month...

A lot of complaining in this thread, but at least streaming is giving us new scripted content and a lot of it.

Look at all much is on the broadcast Networks in today's world, NBC, ABC and Fox is only giving us 7 and under hours of scripted content each week this fall, that is out of 22 hours of prime time hours, CBS is at least giving us 13 hours and that is thanks to the success of Paramount+.

Or look at Cable Channels, just about 5-6 years ago, a lot of scripted content on, now, a vast wasteland of reruns after reruns, now the studios are getting rid of them.
