Star Trek: Strange New Worlds

Episode 2 seemed a pretty savage ripoff of The Squire of Gothos (the first encounter with a Q).
I believe the reason was because it was the prequel to The Squire of Gothos. The actor (Rhys Darby) sounded like William Campbell and even looked like a "younger" version of Trelane from the ST:TOS episode.

And "Dad" was voiced by John de Lancie, good ol' Q itself. The IMDB page names the Aliens "Trelane" and "Q".

Which begs the question - since Spock is now well aware of Trelane and what he's capable of, the events of The Squire of Gothos don't make much sense. Or, have we determined that this series of events are not in the Prime Star Trek universe? The Enterprise would need to be dumbed-down for one thing.

As far as "Light" episodes go, this one was acceptable in my book. It sounds like The Gorn have been neutralized for the time being. And again, TOS Kirk and the Enterprise shouldn't be so unprepared for the Gorn attack when they encounter them in 5ish years. I'm ready for some more Strange New Worlds to explore…
