Star Trek: Strange New Worlds

Episode 2 seemed a pretty savage ripoff of The Squire of Gothos (the first encounter with a Q).
I believe the reason was because it was the prequel to The Squire of Gothos. The actor (Rhys Darby) sounded like William Campbell and even looked like a "younger" version of Trelane from the ST:TOS episode.

And "Dad" was voiced by John de Lancie, good ol' Q itself. The IMDB page names the Aliens "Trelane" and "Q".

Which begs the question - since Spock is now well aware of Trelane and what he's capable of, the events of The Squire of Gothos don't make much sense. Or, have we determined that this series of events are not in the Prime Star Trek universe? The Enterprise would need to be dumbed-down for one thing.

As far as "Light" episodes go, this one was acceptable in my book. It sounds like The Gorn have been neutralized for the time being. And again, TOS Kirk and the Enterprise shouldn't be so unprepared for the Gorn attack when they encounter them in 5ish years. I'm ready for some more Strange New Worlds to explore…

It put a barricade on the storylines, but it was an entirely improbable resolution.
Of course it was. It's 21st Century Star Trek. You get 10 episodes and there are no risks taken. Everything is wrapped-up nice and neat by the end of each episode. The Gorn go away for a while. It's "safe" show-running. It's unfortunate, but it's what I've come to expect since Discovery's 2nd season.

Now, on to the drek that was Wedding Bell Blues (yes, watched it last night). This was a mess of an episode. The writers didn't have to work too hard as they ripped-off "The Squire of Gothos" and some Q elements so badly that it was almost painful to watch, not to mention doing a setup for "What Little Girls Are Made Of", which may work out ok, depending on how they handle it. And no, no, no, you don't stick an 80s pop song into a Star Trek episode! You come with something original. I give this ep a 1/5 stars rating and hope the one dropping this week is a lot better...

I liked it and I just watched the old Star Trek episode of the original show with Nurse Chapel and Dr. Roger Cormey and his androids the other day on Metv. So the story in the Strange New Worlds was the prelude to that one. They like to tie elements of the Original Star Trek into the show like the Gorn and now Dr. Cormey. I have a feeling the ending of this show in season 5, will end up with Capt. Pike going to the planet Talos 4 and meeting the Butthead telepathic people and meeting Vena and then we come full circle. ;)
