Questions:

e-mail
Q: Steve
Connecting a phone line doesn't seem to work with my rotary phone?

A: We support rotary and pulse tone, go to menu and switch to rotary

Q: Mike
I have an external hard drive, Why am I not allowed to connect it to my pc and watch programs?

A: Programmers do not want that to happen, we encrypt the files (an arrangement with our content providers).

Q: Sheila
What view of Earth are we seeing on channel 212 Dish Earth?
A: The Satellite is at the 110 West Longitude on the Clarke belt above the Equator go to www.givetheworld.com for more info.

Q: Richard
Can you broadcast in 3D?

A: Not a prevailing 3D standard in the industry yet, and the TV's do not really support this yet. (Active (expensive) vs. Passive glasses )not for awhile...(year?)

Q: Tony
Are all of your HD Channels in 1080p or just on the VOD channels?

A: Some of our content on channel 501 or 1 are in p (stored on your hard drive) takes up a lot of room. Up to the providers, we were the first to put up on VOD.

Q1: Wes
I currently record everything I watch, I am constantly bumping into max timers allowed (96)

A: Thats all the system memory / ram that we have available now.

Q2: When name based recording was announce and sports programming was shifted we would be covered.

A: No way OT or anything like that is covered, we only get the stuff from the provider... pad the end of the timer is your solution.

Phone Calls

Q: Bob
The 922 what won't the 922 do for those of us in rural areas without broadband.

A: No broadband, really do not get the 922 as the 722 will do about the same functions. (No broadband, no 922)

Q: Jim
When are you going to have the wireless TV monitor out for the 922?

A: We showed this at CES this year, it is looking pretty good, first of the year (just starting production) and only works with the 922. (15"HD)

Nicely done dfergie.
You can have more than 96 timers but only by setting them in the Sling interface. Real maximum untested. You cannot add another in the DVR interface until you go below the (arbitrary?) 96 limit. I'm sure they could shift some memory to the timers, which are better to use than the search list with its even smaller limit.

sounds like a pointer limit. should be real easy to fix in the software, unless they didn't leave any extra bits in that particular pointer location.
i would expect 127 or so would be the limit based on a binary pointer.

Thanks Ken! I may add some pertinent clips today to the first post...

Hmm. The IPhone app was a nice surprise.....

I'm anxiously waiting for the 922 as I want the internet browser and my 722 keeps flaking on the DD5.1 audio on my local FOX affiliate (Fox 5 out of NYC) during all prime time shows, plus all Viacom HD Channels (TOON, NICK, MTV, VH1, CMT, Ch. 101 Concerts, etc.)... Workaround is to disable the DD5.1 audio and switch to analog, but it doesn't sound anywhere near as good as it should....

I guess they are gonna miss that November date Charlie hinted at last month if they say to watch for the next chat for a release date... Sounds like Spring 2010....

Dec. 15th would be nice, but I don't think so. E* never releases a new player before CES in January.

Are they gonna release this one like the 622/722 where they encourage you to lease them, or are they going the "pony up $1K and buy one" route like the 921?

I was the one that called in about the 922 and dialup question. Too bad us folks without broadband can't use it. You would think that one could use it at least for internet service via dialup. I know VOD is near impossible on dialup. Anyone remember the 7100 or the 7200 it was a nice receiver in it's day and the webtv service was pretty good. Granted you could'nt do everything with it but it was'nt bad.

Gee I wonder how many of those early DVR's are still active? :D

I thought my 7100 was the biggest POS going, never-mind the loudest.

Liked the keyboard on my 7200, hated the flaky performance (had to use the Jenny code a couple times a month). The bouncy WebTV logo screensaver. Bonus points for having Doom as a built in game as well as You Don't Know Jack trivia.

Then again, it was guaranteed to crash early and often whenever Daylight Savings Time changes came once every 6 months.....

Dvr timers

So if I read this correctly we can set our times on our dvrs (with the proper equipment) and we don't have to have internet hooked up to the box???
