GEOSATpro USB has stopped functioning

Very interested to see the out come of this, even though I suspect the obvious.

The unit was tested this afternoon. Unfortunately, the drive for was not sent in for the current draw testing. We may never know what role the device played in the USB port failure.

The USB IC is damaged and will not allow any drive to mount. There is no physical damage to the PCB or USB connector. The port is outputting normal voltage and current but did drop 20% under load. While we wouldn't expect to see this large of range, it should remain within typical USB device operational range. It is impossible to determine the cause of the IC chip failure.

As the microHD is under warranty, we have decided to replace the unit at no charge rather than take the additional time to replace the IC.

We recommend that if this portable drive is to be used again with the microHD, that it is only used with the USB pigtail and external power adapter.

Thank you very much! http://www.satelliteguys.us/images/icons/icon11.png

I have no intention of ever connecting that drive again! I have a 500GB Maxtor with external power supply that has been designated as the MicroHD drive. What is really strange is that it would recognize a Fuji 16GB micro SD in an adapter, but nothing else!

As you said in an earlier post, a warning about portable drives should be included in the documentation.

We are including an advisory with our new DVR.

This is only the 2nd failed USB port on a microHD. Not concerned about this being an issue of ongoing concern. :)

The USB 2.0 port has a maximum current rating that is industry standard. Users just need to observe the rating of a device connected to any electronic product.

The portable drive industry seems to have come to the conclusion that there was a powering problem. The majority of portable drives now are sold with included pigtail USB connector.
