I have detected KU band signals using a garbage can lid as a reflector. So anything is possible... :)

Would a regular umbrella with foil work as a reflector? Possibly, but expect to poorly perform for strong KU-band FSS signals. A better candidate for DBS/DSS (Dish or DirecTV) signals. A rain/shade umbrella is not a well shaped parabola, a misshapen, inefficient surface and likely quite lossy.

Here is my umbrella satellite dish project from a few years ago:

This is a little like asking if a flagpole would make for a serviceable tree if you fabricated something that looked like branches for it.

Not all concave surfaces are paraboloids.

In the early 80's Bob Luly, electronics genius developed a 12 foot metalized fabric C band antenna that folded up like an umbrella. They were impressive to see (and expensive).

This is something similar to what I was thinking about, only using an aluminium fly screen (Similar to what's used in storm doors & windows.) rather than foil.
I would think you would need some sort of die to get the right shape as aluminum screening tends to be pretty springy.
