America's Got Talent Season 7 (2012)

AGT related experience I should have posted a couple of weeks ago. I was at one of the Pacers/Heat games last week and guess who was the halftime entertainment? "Quick-change". Their act hadn't changed one single bit. They performed for about 4 minutes and did everything they did on AGT a couple of years ago. Piers was right to criticize them on their lack of range.

I've seen them on handful of televised events, mostly sports, following their AGT appearance. I didn't have any problem with what Pier has to say about their act.. My only complaint was that Pier was a downright jerk toward the couple. It's not like they smiled like idiots and stared spuidly into the camera for 2-minutes. Sure, the act gets old if you see it week-in and week-out...but buzz 'em, tell 'em why you didn't like it, and move on. Piers reacted as though they pee'd in his wheaties. It was similar to when Piers buzzed Prince Poppycock in a past AGT Final and then went on a "You Suck" rant. Poppycock's rendition of Nessun Dorma was ill-timed and certainly not his strongest performance or cup-of-tea (bag-of-tea in the case of the Prince)...but come on Piers! The act did not rate being buzzed nor being met with distain.

So yes, I often agree with Piers...just not a fan of his tactless criticisms. Regardless, I liked Piers a lot better than I do Howard - and I noticed a lot more crappy acts are being voted through to Vegas.

I just finished watching:

- Bambas Brothers were very entertaining (and likeable too)
- Your heart just had to go out to Timothy Michael Poe :)
- I liked the contortionists...I'm with Howie
- Dancing Lulu triggered the old gag reflex
- Joe Castillo would have been really cool two years ago...just seemed like a Silhouettes ripoff
- The Canon Ball guy was exciting...but how is he going to top his next act?

Regardless, tonight was the best show of the season.

Ladies and Gentlemen, may I introduce the 2012 AGT winner: Grenade Boy, Tim Poe.

The mariachi kid was just this side of okay. He had great long loud notes, but if you listen to the rest of the song he was just a good kid-singer, not a good singer who's a kid.

Let's see what other acts come on... (watching via DVR)

[EDIT = I have more than just a little respect for Mr. Poe for the sercice he has done for this country. I do not want to give the impression I was making fun of the guy with the "grenade boy" comment.

I will never see pole dancers the same way again.

You mean to tell me you'll never see another pole dancer, while violently spewing into a tightly held porcelain receptacle, with chunks of dinner stuck to your hair? To quote my friend Rey, "No not again....."

Tonight's Recap:

- Aurora Light Painters were entertaining, but certainly not jaw-dropping
- Doppelganger Circus Sideshow was so bad they were actually jaw-opening
- Jada was ear-popping
- The Mascots were almost as bad as Jada
- Tubby trigged a Dancing Lulu gag-reflex
- Eric and Olivia were good, but she has a limited range IMO
- Richard Grossman grossed me out...and he talked back to Howard
- Eric Dittelman was very entertaining...until we figure out his trick
- Nikki Jensen's singing performance was okay in an unremarkable way
- BBoy-Elusive was good, but we see break dancers every year
- Andrew De Leon sang like his nuts were in a vice - painful to listen and watch

Anyway, they're finally brining on the singing acts. Was the crowd on drugs to cheer De Leon? And what were the judges on to vote him through?

I thought the weird looking gothic guy was awesome. I don't like opera either but he impressed me. I thought it was also amazing that his parents never heard him. They had to have heard him some how.

Having served in the military both in Panama and the original Iraq War (Desert Shield/Desert Storm), I would hope not, also.

I'm amazed at the number of people who claim credit for military service when, in fact, many know very little about the armed forces outside of what they see on TV and the history channel. Even more egregious is the number of former military, and members of congress, who embellish or downright fabricate their medals, ribbons and campaigns. Scumbags!

Totally agree. Really bugs me. No Purple Heart, Bronze/Silver Star, etc. for me. Just 1 Meritorious Service medal (Desrt Storm/Desert Shield), 2 Army Commendation Medals, 3 Army Achievement medals, an Army of Occupation Service Medal (Occupied Berlin), and one of a handful of officers with Good Conduct Medals.

Just to be fair....

Tubby

I disagree with Howie about Eric and Olivia. I really liked their take and I loved her voice. I like that old Bluesy type voice. I thought the Goth young man was very good. I'm not saying I'd go see him, but he could sing, and his look was surprising for his music choice. Watch him come out next time and sing someth from the early Misfits or MArilyn Manson.
