2013 AL Central

I know it's early, but the Tigers starting 4-4 is not very good considering we haven't played any of the top teams. Sure, we can hit...but we haven't shown we can pitch outside of our top four in the starting rotation.

I don't know. The bull pen has been pretty shaky but I can't fault any of the starting 5 so far. I think Porcello is pretty damn good for a number 5 guy. I really doubt you will see any team in baseball with a better performing staff than the Tigers starting rotation this year.

I think Porcello is over-rated and as good as he'll ever be. I would take whatever we can get for him. Elsewhere, Tigers are winning by a touchdown and field goal this afternoon. Many, I really like our picking-up Tori Hunter so far - just wish Martinez wasn't hitting a buck-twenty.

He will never be as good as Verlander and Scherzer who finished 1 and 2 in strikeouts last year. He will probably never be as good as Fister or Sanchez who pitched great in the playoffs for us last year either. He won't be winning any Cy Youngs. He is a number 5 starter who had a great spring though.

I just went through this article that has all 30 teams ranked in order of starting rotation so I could see every team's number 5 starter. I didn't know this when I clicked it but they project the Tigers to have the best rotation in baseball by the way. I can honestly say after looking at each team's 5th starter that I don't think a single one would be a real upgrade over Porcello. Take a look for yourself and tell me which one you'd rather have.

I'm not concerned yet, I typically wait till about 20 games are played then take a look.

I too am happy they got Hunter, great fielder and all the pundits said he couldn't hit as well as he did last year and would be lucky to hit .270.
Well, he seams to like Detroit pretty well so far, he's hitting the ball great.

As for Martinez, I give him time, see what he's doing by the middle/end of May, I bet he's back to .290 -.310 or better.

I heard the guys talking about Porcello the other day, saying on MOST teams (not the top teams obviously) he would be a 3/4, the Tigers have a very solid rotation when everyone is going well.

Pesonally, I'll be happy when Verlander starts to get on his typical role. So far he's been Ok, but far from his dominating self.

I hear what you're saying, but I think we're better off using the slot to develop 2-3 promising youngsters and, if not, hope our bats keep us out of trouble. I have been a vocal critic of Ricky P. and it's time for him to fish or cut bait.

Isn't he "Fishing " now ?

He's pitched better this year than I can ever remember.

How many other teams have a better 5, or even a 4 ?

It sure beats the years of Brad Penny and /or Dontrelle Willis, hell, everytime he went to the mound it was a sure loss, Tigers lost the division because of him.

Perhaps I say "Finishing" instead...he's not finishing. After two appearances, Poorchello is 0-1 with a 6.10 ERA. I hope this isn't the best he can do or we're in trouble. After 5-years, and given the bats on team, he should finish 15-10 with a 3.7 ERA, minimum. I see a 11-10 pitcher with a 4.68 ERA.

I don't think you'll ever see him under a 4. era.
He's been here for 4 years now and has had 2 years with 14 wins, how often does your #5 have 14 wins.

I'm calling at least 15 wins for him this year. If the offense performs like they should all the pitchers are going to get a lot of wins.

Porcello didn't get the win yesterday when leaving with a lead, lost compliments of the Pen, stinky one at that.

Theres one that should have been in the W column for him.
