PS4 Owners Thread

What was funnier than the apology letter is the actual article. It was pulled a while back but this website has it archived. I saw this stuff on twitter this morning and I thought it was pretty hilarious.

That's hilarious! The writer is claiming to be an "Uncharted veteran" and doesn't recognize a very early scene from Uncharted 2. If memory serves, that might have even been the section used in the original Uncharted 2 demo, and the initial truck chase sequence he had to reload several times was used in every trailer, review, preview, awards ceremony presentation, etc. for the game. How could he be tired of this formula if he never in fact really played it? lol

I'm thinking of pre-ordering Fallout 4 on the Playstation Store. If I do that will the game download right away and be on my system the day of it's release if I have it on standby mode?

It should. Almost every game on both new systems supports pre-loading for pre-ordered digital games now. There are some that don't but they are the exception, not the rule. I haven't heard confirmation either way for Fallout 4 but with it being such a huge release I can't imagine that they wouldn't support pre-loading.

From my experience with digital pre-orders on the PS4 pre-loading usually automatically starts about a week before release if you use standby instead of full shutdown. Once the game is loaded on your system when you click on it they will tell you that it's not available to play yet but a countdown timer shows up on screen telling you how long until the game unlocks. The unlock usually happens at midnight eastern time.

Yeah, the writer went into detail talking about how similar and old the game was without actually knowing she was playing Uncharted 2. If she knew those games so well to call out how derivative it was it seems like she would have noticed it was Uncharted 2.

I think you are right in that she never actually played Uncharted 2 and was criticizing it for being to similar to a game she never played. Talk about going in with preconceived notions....

I haven't been big on the Fallout series, but I attribute that more to me just not "melding" with them as opposed to them being bad games. Fallout 3 pushed me away because it was just too glitchy when I played it, and I just lost interest in NV. Maybe after they do the obligatory GOTY edition I'll give it a look.

I really liked Fallout 3. It was the first Fallout game I played. I spent a good amount of time on New Vegas, but similar to you, I lost interest and never finished it. I will likely play the new one, but don't plan to pick it up too early. Maybe if there is a good holiday special, we'll see.

So what happened to the PS Plus voting system? I thought we were supposed to be voting on one of the free games every month and the other two choices that didn't win were going to be heavily discounted. I admit that I haven't been paying super close attention to PS Plus lately but I haven't seen any voting choices outside of the initial offering.

I don't really care either way but it seems weird to make a press release announcing this voting system only to abandon it so quickly.

There was a second vote. It's all been pretty bad.

So far we've only been able to vote in August for one of September's free PS4 games. I don't think this was ever supposed to be a monthly thing (it's a bit of a gamble for developers to participate), but now we've had two months skipped (October and November).

EDIT: I just found one gaming website that says it was only supposed to happen a couple of times a year: Now talking about Vote To Play feature, if you are expecting this feature for October 2015 prepare to get disappointed because Sony clarified that it would be a couple times a year and not a regular feature. Naughty Dog has said that UC 4 Multiplayer will have microtransactions, but no gated content.

In MUCH worse news, the campaign mode (which everyone plays) will render at 30 FPS, while the multiplayer mode (which is marginal at best) will render at 60 FPS. Way to piss off the core audience. Dear ND: Uncharted is NOT Call of Duty. "I only play the multiplayer modes when I buy Uncharted" - Said NO ONE EVER. I'm sorry, but Uncharted in 60 FPS is just plain better: End of story. The fact that they're putting on their stupid multiplayer mode really bites my ass.

This would be a pretty decent lineup if I didn't already have two of the games that are most worth playing: TWD, s. 2 (which I've bought on both PS3 and PS4), and Mass Effect 2. Not so coincidentally TWD, s. 1, is on sale this week. I might have triple dipped on TWD, s.2, for the Vita if it had been on sale as well since I have a season 1 save file on Vita. The other games aren't really my cup of tea.

I'm a bit surprised how much I've been able to do online in PS4 games without PS Plus. I let it lapse in mid-October, figuring there would be ample opportunity to get a one-year sub for no more than $40 over the holiday shopping season. l'm not really into online MP competitive modes for games, so I'm not affected by that limitation by being Plus-less, but I assumed pretty much any other online access (beyond shopping for add-ons or in-game goodies) would be impacted as well. But so far I've seen no difference or restriction in the games I've played. Last night I was able to get into LittleBigPlanet 3 online community levels, and in Just Dance 2014 I was able to participate in online dance competitions and view user-made videos.

OK, Star Wars did it for me, was trying to resist buying a next gen machine because of limited time dealing with my wife's illness and my age of 48, thought I just did not need a new game unit, Battlefront comes out and the next thing I know I am ordering a PS4/Battlefront combo and then ordering a few games with it, $700 later I hit order and it will be here on Thursday.
