I was looking at the channels for Galaxy 19 and saw that there is no dedicated news station from any American city...no RT also...Is there another FTA satellite that I am likely to get on a smaller 28 inch dish
that has some American news from anywhere...??

Don't know of any 24 hour US news on ku but you will find the NBC evening news feeds on 103w as well as RT News. PBS News Hour should be on LPB on 87w and the PBS channels on 125w sometime late afternoon/early evening although I haven't checked. There are also news feeds on 87w for CNN (2 channels) and 91w for ABC (4 channels). I get these with a 90cm dish so don't know how well they will come in on anything smaller but you can use lyngsat.com or sathint.com to get the specifics. :)

Thanks for pointing that out. I have corrected my post to 125w. I knew what I wanted to type but my brain didn't get it to my fingers! :D

According to satbeams , I only need a 60cm dish to get 87w. Is sat beams even accurate? The cnn feeds would interest me. I have a 76cm.

I have seen posts from people who have had trouble getting 87w with a 90cm dish. I get it ok on my 90cm but there is no room for error. Always worth a try though. Titanium has been in the business a long time and he explained it best.

Satbeams site displays the estimated reflector size to receive a signal of a transponder operated at full power and a forgiving FEC. Usually an uplink is not operated at full power or with a low FEC ratio. Satbeams calculation for most satellites is over optimistic at best and doesn't show the reflector size required for reliable reception.

I get 87W good on a fixed 76 cm with a Avenger pll lnbf on it here in Ct. As Fta4pa said though, there's no margin for error. It's a touchy sat to get, you have to be spot on.

95W is strong and easy to lock on a 76 cm dish. CCTV news is on there in English if you don't mind foreign news channels. For a few years I had a small direct TV dish setup for 95W Ku and it worked fine but I get it on one of my c band dishes now, so I took it down to make room for other better dishes.

I have another 76 cm fixed dish set on 103W too for NHK and that comes in good all the time, but the NBC feeds there don't always come in, the dish is a bit small for those.

on 87W, with a 60cm I think you would get the MTA transponder as well as, probably, the CNN feeds. Louisiana PBS would be very difficult though - that one is much weaker.

On 91W, there's a good chance you would get the ABCnews feeds

like Raine says, 95W is an easy target and has CCTV/CGTN in English

97W has CNCworld, another news channel from China

According to tvrosat, CNN on 119, 11898 R 20000. Takes a special LNBF and it’s not high quality video. Had a dish set up on it about 6 months ago but wasn’t worth it for one channel.

good to know
I didnt see RT on the list..must have been an old one..
I might need to get a 36 inch someday...are there any rectangle ones that will work good with FTA
KU and C....? a rectangle would fit nicely..

Don't run into square cornered dishes, but they do exist. The last one I heard of was a big C-Band dish that belonged to Prince. It was sold after his death. But it looked like it had been abandoned years ago. If the thing would have been purple, people probably would have fought over it ;)

I am about to do exactly like kittyhas1000legs did, except for 87/91/95/103. I also recommend a 90cm dish as that was the best "newbie" advice everybody gave me. You can get a GeoSat Pro 90cm dish brand new shipped free by FedEx on Ebay for $99. Worth every penny!!! All the channels people say seem weak, I get very strongly. I even get the Macy's channels on 105 while I'm pointed straight at 103. Of course, your location has something to do with signal strength, but a good quality dish cannot be beat. Take it from one of the newest "newbies" around here :)
