New Apple Watch 4 for 2018 Rumors and Facts

Isn’t that how life is? We decide some feature makes a purchase worthwhile?
Some like to operate that way because they doubt that the thing that they're "shopping" for will never meet the criteria.

I see lots of people who shop for TVs that way (I'm probably one of them). I want a TV that can do 3D but it may be too late for that. I want a FALD LCD with hundreds of zones. I don't expect to find one, but that's the straw man I've set up for myself.

When it comes to health monitoring equipment, I want the most accurate equipment I can get even if it isn't the most convenient or the cheapest.

Keep in mind the QardioArm cuff is not really an Apple watch accessory. It is a smartphone (both iOS and Android) device that offers Apple watch capability. Same goes for the other health monitoring devices offered by Qardio. This company is not the cheapest on the market but they seem to be very good and their customer service is great. I broke the battery clasp on mine and sent them a picture by email and they sent me a new one at no charge and no shipping charges. I asked for parts cost.

I'm quite surprised given the disparity in elevation between the two devices. I would have expected one to have read at least 50% higher calorie consumption given the 54% greater elevation gain.

I wouldn’t hold too much stock on elevation on the Garmin. Sometimes I would be at work and it would tell me I climb a bunch of stairs when there are none. Just flat land.
Calorie burn all goes back to the heart rate anyway. Elevation, high temperatures and high humidity will all make the heart rate rise which converts to more calorie burn.

Doing some research on Exercise credit: This I didn't know:

To make sure that you earn Exercise credit during walks, allow the arm with your Apple Watch to swing naturally. For example, while walking your pet, let the arm with your watch swing freely while the other holds the leash.

If you need both hands while walking, for example to push a stroller, you can still earn Exercise credit with the Workout app. Open the app on your Apple Watch and tap Outdoor Walk. The Activity app relies on arm motion and an accelerometer to track movement, but the Workout app can use the accelerometer, the heart rate sensor, and GPS.

Update-
So this is the basic secret to getting indoor credit for exercise. You have to swing your arm naturally on a treadmill. It must be calibrated to treadmill distance for accuracy. After doing that the Exercise green ring went to 9 o'clock after a 20 minute walk at 3mph. The only difference I saw was calories burned. The treadmill gave 93cal and the Apple watch gave 103 cal. Heart rate was 104 to 121 range but the treadmill requires a thumb press and my model does not track the heart rate.

More report on exercise green ring testing-

I did two treadmill indoor exercise periods for 30 minutes each. Both were with watch arm swinging. One with workout app open and running. This resulted in 30 minutes of exercise or closed green ring. The second was 30 minutes with no workout app running. This resulted in zero minutes exercise although the miles walked speed and heart rate were similar..

I did a third test where I did not swing my watch arm but used the workout app and I achieved 2 minutes of exercise for every 10 minutes.

Conclusion- for precise credit on indoor treadmill must use workout app running and swing your watch arm while walking.

watchOS 5.0.1 was released yesterday.

I saw that but there are several reports of problems with the exercise green ring not registering accurately now with the 5.01 update. Since I finally figured out how to get mine working in line with real time I decided not to update until Apple addresses the many complaints. The other update is to address some AW4's that are not charging and I don't have that problem. I'll remain on wOS5.00

So I’m at the T-Mobile store and I asked about the AW4. I mentioned that I would always have my iPhone with me when wearing the watch. They said I needed to get the cell version, starting at $499 and I’d have to pay another $10/month. If I got the non cell version, it would just be a Fitbit.

I’m at the Apple Store and they say if my iPhone is always with the watch, there’s no need to get the cell version. I’d save $100 up front and $10/month.

And the REST of the story is......?

Never attempt to buy the GPS ?Watch at a cellular carrier store. Why should they carry the non-cellular version of the ?Watch?

But would I lose anything whatsoever by choosing the non-cell version?

Other than being able to take a phone call etc without the iPhone nearby?

There is no rest of the story. Simply put what Apple told you is all there is to know. I have cellular because I like SS case and that only comes with Cellular.

Not just phone calls but anything that requires communication except BT devices, like Airpods. That will still work.

Yeah, basically the cell version just lets u make calls and text from the watch without the phone.

I got the cell version this time just because... :)

If you carry your iPhone with there is absolutely no reason to get the cellular Watch.
You can make and receive calls if your on the same WiFi network which will give you plenty of distance if needed.
Are you sure your not at Best Buy buying a tv and they are selling their much needed hdmi “low” priced cables

The Watch does make calls via WiFi if you are connected to same network. Same with messages. At work I turn my Bluetooth off on my phone so I can have more range.
