My receiver broke several months back. Don't know what happened to it, but may have gotten moisture in it. I disconnected everything. Now, I want to see if I can get it fixed. I reconnected it to see what I might could find out. Here is the problem.

When I turn it on it shows a numerical channel like 7 or 9. I have no picture just snow. I can go up and down on the channels, however I do not have a satellite showing on the panel. When I press Sat on the remote I have the satellite screen, but no satellites showing. When I try to change satellites with the left or right arrows in the satellite select screen it says "This satellite is located beyond your limits. Choose Set Limits to change your limits." When I go into the set limits screen both east and west are on 5000.

I am not very smart when it comes to programming this receiver. Could some of you satellite geniuses please help me?

I would try a master reset, if that don't work you may have to send it off for repair. At this point since the 920 is old technology and don't receive all the channels the 922 does you may want to just get a new DSR-922.

Thanks for your input. Could someone tell me how to do a master reset please?

Thanks for the link. I just can't figure out the dish position for G1. My numbers are in the thousands on the dish position, so I can't relate to the degrees on the chart.

Don't know where you can get to with your 4dtv, but G1 is at 133.0w. Whatever satellite you are on, go into "Options" "6" "4" "4" (Program Satellites) and highlight "G1". Channel up or down to one of these channels, 5, 11, 12, or 17 is showing at top right corner. Highlight #2 (Dish Position) and left or right arrow in the correct direction to motor over to G1. You should be able to find it with any of the channels listed above. Good Luck!

Okay I'm on G1 channel 5. After pressing 6 4 4 it shows dish position at 5000. I can't move the position either way because it says my limits have been reached. I assume I need to reset my dish limits by pressing 6 4 3, however I don't know what to set them on. My East limit is on 5000 and my West limit is on 5000. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

There is no set number for what your limits should be on. You need to set the west limit first, move the dish west till the dish gets to a spot that you no longer want it to go any further west. Then go to the east limit and move the dish east till you get it over as far as you need it to be. It's best to keep an eye on the dish while your doing this so you don't cause the actuator to run beyond it's mechanical limits or have the dish hit anything.

Edited to add: If you can't get your dish to move with your remote, the 4DTV actuator board or your actuator or cables may have an issue. I know there is a MOV that goes bad in the 4DTV's that prevent's the actuator from working.

Thanks for the information. My remote will move the dish. I tried to tinker with it a little until I found out this information on setting the limits. I will try setting the limits later today, and will report back. My dish and actuator are okay. My problem is with the receiver. I may have a bad battery. If I do have a bad battery how would I know?

If your battery is bad your decoder unit ID has changed or all zero's. If this is the case your unit would have to be shipped to ATS and they would have to change the battery and reload a unit ID. IMHO If it get's down to that your best bet is to get a DSR-922, since the 920 is problematic and old technology to start with. A new unit will also have a 1 year warranty. I bought my 922 from Skyvision, they have a pretty good price on them. Good Luck :)

I pressed on options then 6 and 5. My unit ID has 00-0008-5000- and two letters. Do you think this is a battery issue?

I agree that if it is a battery I will purchase a 922. Is the one from Skyvision purchased from NPS or directly from Skyvision?

Sounds like the unit is toast.

Skyvision use to sell programming for NPS but when NPS started selling 4dtv's Skyvision switched to SRL as a programming supplier, so if you want a 4dtv from Skyvision you must contact them, they can fix you up good with 4dtv, parts and programming, NPS can hook you up with 4dtv and programming, I think John from NPS mentioned that are out of 4dtv's right now I'm not sure though.

A big thank to everyone who helped me out with this problem. Even if I did a master reset it sounds like this unit wouldn't hold a picture. I guess I'm saving my money now for a 922.

Yes, I have already come to grips with the death of my 920. I called Skyvision yesterday. I just can't afford a new unit for several months.

ok if no one has mentioned it and you don't already have one you can add a dvb receiver (a smaller expense) and pick up some free stuff. its nothing like the subscriptions but might be something to hold you over until you save up the bucks to get a 922. Now moving the dish would be the problem. maybe one of the others can chime in and let us know how to move the dish with a bad id unit. or maybe you have another analog receiver that will move the dish.
just a thought

Yeah George I've thought about getting a FTA receiver for some time now. I can move my dish by clicking the east and west limits. I wouldn't know how to set it up without programming the satellites though. And if I was going to spend the 200 on a DVB wouldn't it be better to just pay to have my 920 repaired for 200?
