HOPPER SNAP

Since I already get AHC and we have no interest in Dish OnDemand movies, the Veterans Plan offers me nothing. Or am I missing something?

One or two Snaps, or one H3 and hope they upgrade my owned J1 to an owned J3.

Decisions, decisions. Bobby, set me up with a decision facilitator. Make it a double.

And a Moscow Mule for the little lady.

Won’t they let you add a second H3, so long as it is owned?

They only have a few hundred units which are going out in new installs as a field trial.

They are still not available to call in and get one until those trials and more inventory comes in.

Unfortunately, I take this to mean there's no estimate of when these will become available to existing subs. It could be a very long time.

I don’t think it will be that long. Management was very happy with the product and your excitement in this item.

They know this will keep a lot of people as Dish customers.

Remember, this ain't The Pub, so feel free to water them down… ;)

So if a customer has a Hopper 3 and a Joey 2 or two, the Hopper Snap can't be used to speed up the Joeys?

But when a pub member asks me for a drink I pour well. Now, non pub members, well, they don't get drinks at all because they can't get into the pub! :)

Nope, because the Hopper 3 already has the go juice that the SNAP adds for the Hopper 1 and 2. The best bet for your configuration is to swap out the those Joey 2s for 3s.... I actually have a Joey 2 and a Joey 3 attached to my Hopper 3. The 2 is slower than the 3 but nothing like it was when it was attached to a Hopper 1.

I must admit I'm certainly one of those that's excited about this product. As of late I was pondering upgrading to an H3 but considered the process distasteful because of the prospect of having to move all my recordings. Also, call me petty but I really do like the recording light and I have no need for more than the 5 tuners I currently have with the HWS. The Snap module would solve all of these issues for me and keep me happy since I have no desire to leave Dish.

Okay I have tried to find the answer to this question, but cant seem to. What on earth is a hopper snap and why do I need it and what does it do? I have a hopper 3 and joey 3's.

Okay but still interested in what the darn thing does?

Me too. There is nothing coming up in Google or the Dish web site. We paid a lot of money to get my mom a Hopper with Sling a few years ago and if we can make it run faster for her, that would be great.

Pop it in the top rear USB port. The Hopper software knows to detect it and offload graphics processing to it. The SNAP has a faster processor and, I guess, some memory so it can make the display operation faster. But the Hopper 3 already has a faster processor so the SNAP would do it no good.

Scott already posted that it is like an external GPU and speeds up the graphics part (menus etc.), both for the H1 and H2 and the attached Joeys. Apparently the part of the older Hoppers that perform that function are underpowered for the CUI.

I thought i read where DISH released a date for the snap. May 15th or 16th? Why release a date when you are not 1000% sure that it will happen? Common sense to me.
