Ok, I'll try to summarize for all, LOL
Thanks for the map, first time I had seen this. Edmonton is inside the red area so therefore is in need of the 1.2m AK/HI dish. Yes, you will get all the HD with this but signal reports on 99 and 103 are in the sixties and seventies, not high 80's. Not...
No problem with the Slimline dish at this location to get all your HD channels. The HD signal starts falling apart as you move north of 52N latitude. Here in Edmonton (53.3) we get about half of the subscribed HD channels on the Slimline. Starting to see a few more 1.2 meter Alaska/Hawaii dishes...
I think the tilt is important. As per dishpointer.com the reccomended tilt for Edmonton is -9.1 so 90- - 9.1 would be 99.1 (remember at 90 the dish is straight up and down) so you have to move it 9 degrees. That is what I set my slimline to.
Thanks for the quick replies. Just to confirm, I should pick up a swm8 switch while I am here?- then 4 lines from lnb into switch and then single line into power inserter (still) or directly into the HR22? I will still be using the one receiver if that matters.
I realize this is not needed in the lower 48. in my location I am only receiving half of my HD ka transponders with signals in the 30's. Low 90's on 101, Slimline with swm3 setup. Previosly was told to go with Ak/HI 1.2m dish but cost, size & weight to transport home from HI is not realistic...
I can't locate "doctors" post of the retrofit of the AK/HI 99/101/103 lnb with the fta 1m dish. I am currently in HI and have secured the mentioned lnb but do not want to transport the dish, az/el mount home, just too big and heavy not to mention needless questions from border guy on my return...
I was able to find a slimline dish and followed Bob's sequence for SWM startup. All is working fine now, thanks to everyone for their help.
This far north, I'm getting about half the ka transponders as we are on the edge of the footprint. Signals mainly in the 30's with a bump up to the...
Looks like I have a choice then either to get a slimline dish (rare around here plus the AT9 being slightly larger gives me a little more HD) or just drill a hole and run another line. Leaning now toward option 2
How do I get rid of the SWM software that downloaded to the box? Is it just an...
Thanks guys, I folowed Bob's sequence and things seems okay now with the 771a now gone but a 771 present - probably moved the dish with the lnb change. I can now see the 0's on the 99,103 and 101 sat signal screen. I see there is also a SWM screen?
Before I try to repoint I'll mention that...
Well, I finally went ahead with the setup and I'm having a problem. Changed out lnb to the SWM3, ran the RG6 line into the Power Inserter (green light on), then into line 1 of the HR22. B Band Converters removed. Power to receiver unplugged prior.
With all in place then plugged in reciever...
I received the SWM3 lnb and power inserter today via UPS.
Silly question but I imagine I need to unhook power to PVR first before proceding with the other hookups? Then plug in power inserter, then box? After running setup, both meters will show signal? I would also like to confirm no need...
Thanks guys for the quick reply. Looks then like I only need the SWM3 lnb and the power inserter.
No Ice, no locals needed for *D as I get tons of locals with ShawD!
I currently have a slimline 5 lnb setup and only one line of RG6 coming into the house.
I want to use an HR22 and would like to go the SWM route instead of drilling another hole to run a second line of RG6 to feed the DVR.
I am able to get my hands on a used SWM3 LNB, an 8 way wide band...
Old thread came up from my search.
During setup I switched from dual to single as I had only one line going to the HR 22. I then added another line but could get no signal on tuner two.
I switched this cable to tuner 1 and got signal indicating that both lines were live. However when I...
The slimline (larger than PH III) continues to give me weak (30's) ka signals, I don't hold out much hope for the Phase III dish to pull in a reasonable signal this far north.
Here's hoping someone in Alaska is not using their Directv 1.2 and may want to unload it. I keep checking...
I thought the base of the newer lnbs was wider and would not fit into the sleeves of the older dishes.
If the newer lnb's do fit ( into old), why not just use a 30" round dish ( or larger) if all you want is 99,101,103 or is the relective angle all wrong?
I'm still looking for something a...

I was under the assumption that the slimline lnb would not work with the international dish. Can someone please verify?
If it does work could one expect much signal improvement / lessen raid fade with it?
I currently use a slimline dish with the 5 lnb.
My current signals are 85-95 on 101, 60-70 on 119, 75-80 on 110
On both 99 and 103, I get 20's to 30's on trans 1,2,5,6,9,10,13,14.
I get all 0's on trans 3,4,7,8,11,12.
I understand I may...
I would like to know if there is any way to retrofit the current 4 coax slimline 5lnb (or the newer SL3-SWM) onto an older 1.2 meter dish. The older dish has a smaller rectangle slot that housed the old single directv lnb - opening looks to be about 3/4" x 1 7/8".
I would like to avoid...
Canadian equivalent to Comcast in Calgary will be Shaw Cable. Starchoice (now called Shaw Direct) is a satellite option. Both will give you your Seattle locals - or Spokane if you wish.
The Directv signal is fine in Calgary. PM me if you have any furthur questions
