    GE 52" Widescreen HD-Ready Rear-Projection CRT

No, cheapo AKIA for the most part still don't have DVI-HDCP. They are terrible sets, RCA is also nothing great and unreliable.

Do I have to activate an HD Receiver in order for it work for HD locals

no, an old Voom box is useless. It will not work for OTA only, unless it was disconnected from the sat feed before it got the kill signal, which can't be proven if you buy it online. Get a DirecTV HD receiver. They do NOT need a card to work, (except for H10) and do NOT need a satellite...

    GE 52" Widescreen HD-Ready Rear-Projection CRT

wouldn't buy it. GE is too general, it even says it in their name. Since they don't specialize is electronics their not every good at making them. CR says that they are amoung the most unreliable TV's on the market, so is RCA-no wonder. Buy a Sony, Mitsubishi, or Hitachi for rear projection CRT...

    DVI vs HDMI

an adapter would, in no way mess with your PQ. Its a simple Pin-to-Pin downgrade or upgrade. Buy an HDTV with both connections if you can, otherwise it doesn't really matter. I would get HDMI, just because you or the next owner of the TV might not have a surround sound system at some point in...

    30" 16:9 CRT HDTV

Yep, the 30 inch standard (non-XBR) widesceen HDTV that Sony makes is the best HDTV for your bucks. Its contantly rated higher then those 3 TV's. I noticed in a recent issue of consumer reports, it was the highest rated non-XBR also, but I have seen it rated by better sources also. Its a winner...

If it doesn't have DVI/HDMI with HDCP then DO NOT buy it. Its a complete waste of money, that is why the price is so low.

Info Needed on Using Wide Screen for PC Display

Unless you have an LCD HDTV, don't connect a PC to your TV. It will burn into the screen, as most PC stuff is comparised or static images. It will also look like crap.

    Upconversion Question

"Thanks. I guess I've seen a couple of receivers that "upconvert inputs to component video" ... but I suppose these aren't doing the same sort of de-interlacing and pixel interpolation that the up-converting DVD players are doing?" No, not the same. If you feed an A/V receiver an analog signal...

Opinion on first timer HD Setup

4:3 is bad, because its outdated and the orginal format used since the begining of TV. We move one more step every time a channel becomes 16:9 HD, to 4:3 being a thing of the past. look at Europe, almost all 16:9 broadcasts now. If your going to have an HDTV, then its got to be 16:9 to take full...

    Upconversion Question

depends on your set-up. Some HDTV's have great up-converting modes, some do not. No A/V receivers up-convert, besides composite to S-Video, (which is analog) so they are out of the question. Yes, there are HDTV's on the market with both a DVI-HDCP input and an HDMI input. As long as your HDTV...

Opinion on first timer HD Setup

First of all the HDTV is not 16:9, first bad. Since all HD programming is presented in 16:9, your going to have get used to black bars, or a 33% picture cut off. In less you are going to buy a used (version 1) DVB-318 you won't be much HD on that TV, as your TV lacks a DVI input, second bad...

HDTV + Progressive Scan DVD Player Newb Question

KevinW-I picked the Zenith because it gave me (Don't know for a fact that the new firmware doesn't support compoent HD) BOTH DVI and Component 1080i. This is VERY important to me because my HDTV, like most only has one DVI-HDCP input. If I put my HD receiver for TV on DVI then I didn't want to...

HDTV + Progressive Scan DVD Player Newb Question

Regular DVD out a progressive scan DVD player's component video outputs is only 480p. Out of a regular non-progressive scan player it is even less as only 480i (which is analog). Get an up-converting player and you will be happy! 1080i or 720p is alot better then 480i/p!

Can 720p/1080i be transmitted over Component cables?

"In lieu of any content protection schemes that may be used. Any TV or projector will have both DVI and component so do not fear that part of it." This isn't true. you can buy lots of soon to be obsolete HDTV's right now. I could walk into best buy right now and find lots of HDTV that still...

HDTV Questions (Particularly Sony Grand Wega Rear-Projection LCD vs. XBR)

I bet you can get a waiver without any problems, for the national feeds (by satellite) of NBC and CBS HD on DirecTV. Plus the soon to be offered Fox-HD. ABC-HD is rumered not to be far behind. If you live way out in the middle of nowhere, it shouldn't be a problem to obatain a waiver from the...
