2008 World Series.......Phillies vs. Rays

Phillies win game 1......Brad Lidge continues his dominance.

If the rest of the series is as good as tonight's game, this has the makings of a memorable series! :up

This game went as I anticipated. If the Phillies DON'T win this game with their best pitcher going (Cole Hamels), then I think they would've been in deep trouble.

Loved the outcome of the game. I worry, however, about all the runners stranded by the Phillies. I realize one game does not make a series but I would feel a lot better if Ryan Howard not wave his bat at every pitch no matter what the location. I don't think he swung at a ball in the strike zone all night. Thank God for Chase, Cole, Ryan and Brad. And even Carlos' ground out RBI.

They are calling for a 70% chance of rain at game time on Saturday in Philly.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) - Rain in Philadelphia's forecast this weekend could alter the World Series schedule — and pitching plans for both teams. Game 3 between the Tampa Bay Rays and Phillies is slated for Saturday night at Citizens Bank Park, but there is a 70 percent chance of rain in Philadelphia that day, according to weather.com Baseball spokesman Pat Courtney said if the game is postponed, it would be pushed back to Sunday and the teams would lose a scheduled off day Tuesday between Games 5 and 6, if they're necessary. Game 4 would be slated for Monday and Game 5 for Tuesday.

I see the TV ratings were indeed down from last years series. They were however better than the previous year. Personally, I don't give a damn. With two east coast teams playing Fox and MLB should have put the games on at a time to attract east coast fans. I set my DVR to record the game and after 4 hours it shut off and I missed the final out and those wonderful post game interviews. Oh maybe I really didn't miss the inane garbage they call interviews.

THREE things you can count on my friend..
1. Death
2. Taxes
3. WORLD SERIES START TIMES IN PRIME TIME E.T. ZONE.

It is all about the Almighty $$$. That is why the first game has been moved to a Wed. night as they figured out the ratings for a Friday night game would be poor. And a Saturday 8:30PM ET start time is after most of the NCAA Football games, so it will leave the sports freak hungry for more and segue into the Series.

We can bitch, piss and moan, cry, complain and anything else we want to do...but the bottom line is it ain't gonna change. Money talks.

I don't care if the ratings are good or not; the ratings are, for me, something to make fun of.

Good games with bad ratings- reminds me of the 2006 Stanley Cup Finals.

I havent read the thread but just have one thing to say. Domes should be banned in the MLB. watching ball at Tampa makes me sick. Baseball should NOT be played on a RUG and NOT in a DOME.

No domes = more rainouts

If there were no domes in rainy cities, there'd be too many postponed games!

SO be it. Baseball should be played under the stars or the sun not under a dome on a carpet. To play the WS in this abortion is a disgrace to baseball. catwalks:rolleyes:

btw, tonights game would be being played in the rain if there was not a dome.
The game is going on long enough as it is, 11 pm only 7th inning.
This one could have been rained out tonight.

I don't care for domes either, especially for football.

Q. Are there NO artifical turf fields in the NL anymore ?
There was a report that this was the first time the Phillies played on turf since 2006

Tampa Bay, Toronto and Minnesota are the only teams left playing on artificial turf.

Minnesota will move outdoors in 2010 (Target Field) ,
Tampa has long range plans to move to a "Hybrid Outdoor" stadium in the 2013-15 timeframe.

Plans to move forward on this are still far from complete. Tampa's still struggling with getting the approval on a new stadium from the locals, even though it supposedly won't cost taxpayers any money.

See this thread for the plans and pics of this rendered stadium. Hopefully the Rays exposure in the WS will help this cause....
