Why does a Rangers fan care so much about the Red Sox?

That's OK. He's the same guy that earlier this year said the Sox should dump Ortiz because he's done and that they would regret the loss of Bay and Manny.

The Red Sox, trailing Detroit 4-2 in the bottom of the ninth, got a three run double from Ortiz to pull out a victory. Trailing New York and Tampa Bay by 7.5 and 5.5 games going in, and having come up one run short with Ortiz's ninth inning grand slam yestterday (after Wakefiled gave up two runs in the eighth), I was thinking just before that with a loss today, that the Red Sox season was about to come to an end.

Papelbon sucks. Blown save number 5, ERA over 3. Look for him to be playing elsewhere next year. I doubt that the Red Sox will even try to make him into a starter, because he has been a reliever for too long, and his salary demand will be too high to give the transition to starter a shot.

If you guys need any more examples of Cleveland's hard luck and misfortune, last night was yet another example. Our prized prospect and future franchise cornerstone was taken off the field on a stretcher with his left leg in an air cast after blocking home for an out in the seventh inning.

On a night where two Indians hitters were beaned by pitches, laying one Tribesman (Choo) on the ground for 2 minutes, a NIGHT after the Sox took out the Tribe's best player (Santana), the Red Sox as a team rush the mound because a rookie relief pitcher threw behind a batter?! WTF?! And Beckett needs to STFU. I almost jumped through the TV screen when I saw him trying to start something behind the protection of several players and coaches.

I thought the ligaments were for sure torn. His cleat stuck in the ground and his knee bent the opposite direction. It was UGLY! I'm praying he makes a full recovery.

* "beaned" is the term normally used when a batter is hit in the head by a pitch. I don't believe either batter was hit in the head.

** Choo immediately stole second after getting hit, so he's probably OK.

*** Took out?? Definitely an unfortunate injury, but it was a legitimate play at the plate and the runner has a right to it too. If there was no throw at all I could see your point.

I can see your anger towards Beckett, he's obviously a player that's hard to like unless you're a Sox fan. But, both he and Lackey were right up front, defending their teammates...

Highly unusual behavior for the franchised that once had as its motto, "twenty-five guys, twenty five cabs".

I remember back in the late 1980s, a beaning incident led to the dugouts emptying and someone who was in the Red Sox bullpen - I think it was Mike Greenwell, so he must have had the day off - jumped over the wall and ran half way to the scrum, then looked over his shoulder and saw that no one was following him.

Beckett needs to STFU....

When I saw Beckett mouthing off, it reminded me of when Bill Lee got his arm dislocated in a brawl with the Yankees in the late 1970s.

I saw him trying to start something behind the protection of several players and coaches.

Like Mickey Rivers did in the Bill Lee brawl. Ken Harrelson was one of the Red Sox announcers and he was yelling, "Look at Mickey RIvers. He's just running around suckerpunching people!"

I didn't read this myself, but someone told me that in Jim Bouton's first book, he said he had arranged to have a designated hugger on each team, so if the dugouts ever emptied, they would find and engage each other so they would look like they were part of the fight without risking getting injured.

I also remember the fight between Joe Pepitone and Rico Petrocelli, because they looked like mirror images of each other. Sort of a John Calipari/Rick Pitino resemblance.
