.. . or maybe ask nicely and have the moderator (Iceberg) change the name of the thread to something more appropriate.
Up to you, but maybe:
- newbie in Las Vegas
- 1.2m and motor
- big Ku dish & BUD
(Oh, I see you replied whiile I was typing - anything willl do) :D

. . . AND by all means, check back more often!!! -

I was just giving one side of the story (the side I call common sense), but there are many ways to go about your task.
I just want you to be successful before you get burned out, worn out, or discouraged.
To that end, ground-mounting the dish without the motor, and maybe ground mounting WITH the motor, are things to consider.
(maybe you have good reasons why you cannot)

Be warned, hanging a motor and that big dish on a PIPE (not a thin-wall fence post) will put a lot of stress on it.
We usually like to recommend relatively larger pipe (whatever the dish and motor will mount on)
And we like to keep the pipe somewhat short - dish at chest height is good.
(higher is a no-go)
Putting the pipe several feet into the ground, in some cement is very wise - :eureka

Reading through many threads on the forum would familiarize you with all these ideas, so if the son is willing (and wise) maybe he or you will take a tour.
Great things can be found here.
I was just condensing what I'd read over several years of haunting the place. ;)

Where are you now, and what do you need help with?
Many friendly folk will chime in... as many have your same equipment, or have been in the same position.

I didn't mean for you to not start a new thread, I just meant there's no reason to close this one. I like that for a title "Newbie Gone Wild", go for it..!!!
