Dish messing with Voom, All are now HD-Lite 1280x1080i: Discuss this issue HERE!

Hey look...as part of the board upgrade, there is a new smilie just for this thread/subject...it's called "protest"

!protest !protest !protest !protest !protest !protest !protest !protest !protest !protest

Perhaps Scott should rename the smilie "hdlite" instead of "protest"

I just watched fail-safe again.

Favorite movie.

It looks horrible at this resolution. Very grainy

Looked fine 2 days ago!

Hokie there is content on those new channels? That must be how you're getting a rez on them right? are they uniqure or mirrors of exisitng channels? if so what do they mirror

Hey guys,

Dishnetwork is performing some testing at this moment. So give them some little time and hope all the VOOM chs will be return at TRUE HD pic.;)

No new content, but I'm not sure which channel mirrors what. The only one I can deduce is the 1920x1080 mirror must be of galleryhd! My 61.5 dish is blown sideways cuz of the wind so I'll do the stuff at 61.5 when I get that back working. (Probably after this VT game on ABC hehehe)

I hope its just testing. I just went with Dish for their HD because I couldn't take what Directv was doing to their HD CH's. I love Monsters HD but we really need full rez on all HD ch's. If I need to pay a little more for it I WILL!!!!

I would pay 20$ a month for all 21 Voom in true 1920x1080i at 2 per transpnder, Dish has the room don't they??

61.5 and 129 Voom are both identical

The only channels that have been effected in this change are the 4 true 1920x1080i hd channels of Monsters/Ultra/Animania/Equator

the other 6 were the same they have been for 5/6 months(1280x1080i) in other words since the day they have been lite up

one of those 6 1280x1080i GalleryHD, is now 1920x1080i at around 14 Mbps

I have seen nothing chage today so far, if they are testing it hasn't been today

Last night they were up testing/tweaking until I went to sleep at 6 AM

Sean do put the word out for us, we pay for and enjoy HDTV and are not the average joes who don't care

I will report as soon as anything changes(if it does)

You do know GuyTV was always 1280x1080i since Voom has been on Dish, right?

Would this be called ED (Enhanced Definition) or is that between SD and HD lower than the HD-Lite resolution? So all of DirecTv's HD channels even in their local markets are 1280x1080i? Perhaps Dish Network realized that they had to go the HD-Lite/ED route in order to compete with DirecTv to get more channels up and going. They probably figure that if they can get away with this along with the turbo and MPEG-4 they could maximize the compression for more space. They know that they can always improve the resolution in the future. I do not see this any different than them compressing the current SD channels we see today which reduces the picture quality.

I'll drop the HD pack and voom if they start doing this with there HD channels. At least I will get to see the locals in TRUE HD, the way they were meant to be seen.

No. ED is generally considered 480p. 1280x1080i is still HD. AFAIK, it is not public information what resolution/bitrate DirecTV is tranmitting their MPEG4 HD locals at.

I've looked at all the Voom and HD Net channels and the Voom still look pretty good to me here in TX. Maybe its not going to be as bad as we thought, may be more of a mental thing, just a thought! If no one had told us about this maybe we might not even noticed! ;)

I looked at Equator on my 26" HDTV in my bedroom last night after reading this thread, didn't notice any real change it still looked great. Then I went into the living room and turned on the 61" HDTV and noticed a huge difference. That's when I wrote to E*.
