DSR 920 Wiring

Hello to all. I removed my chaparal 17* C band LNB years ago to test with Ku band, but now when I go to put it back, I find there's only three cables on the LNB, white,black and red, while the piece of cable that i cut to remove it has 2 thicker black and white cables plus five thinner ones,black,white,blue,brown and green.How do I splice 3 with 7 ???

The black white and red wires are for the polarity servo motor on the feedhorn. There should be one or possibly two runs of RG-6 Coax for the signal. Of the others the thicker black and white wires would have gone to the motor of your actuator and the other ones you'll have to identify at the other end to see which ones you need to connect to the sensor of your actuator. If it has a reed style (magnetic) sensor you likely only need two of the other wires.

Hey guys thanks for the reply. For lack of pictures, i'll try to be more explicit. the wiring on the back of the 920 is OK but the picture seems to come and go. The antenna does move verry well. Aside from the RG-6 that goes up to the LNB or better said down from the LNB to the input on the reciever, all the ribbon cables go un to the actuator and from there, another piece with the Thick black and white and the five assorted colors, goes to the LNB to supposedly tie in to the 3 thin ones (black, white and red) in the LNB.) maybe all those cables shouldn't be that far up but that's the way they were installed. What I need to know is witch ones of the seven do I splice with the 3 from the LNB? Thanks again for your support.

What wires are connected to the back of your 920? It sounds like there are too many wires, perhaps someone just used a piece of wire they already had instead of using the proper stuff.

I guess a better question would be, what do you get when you try to use the receiver. You state that the antenna moves well so that indicates that the actuator is hooked up correctly.
Look behind the 920 and see if you have the same wire colors as you do at the dish. My guess is that most of them are not connected to anything back there and you can eliminate the ones that are not necessary.

freind like i said i can see a picture like lets say C-span on c3 tp-7 but the quality is poor and not clear as it was before. This is how its hooked up on the back of the 920.on top is green and brown fot 5v pulse and ground. Then comes M1 and M2 the thick black and white. then in the polorizer, white,red,green and black for skew,+5v,ground and ch/kv ext respectfully. I really don't know witch ones stop at the arm (actuator?) 'cause it's allways been taped up but i know that the 7 mentioned run up the dish to meet the 3 from the LNB. The only one I see up there that I dont see in the back of the reciever is the thin blue one, so i guess that one must tie in somewhere on the LNB. Question: is the LNB working right without hooking up thse 3 wires that it has? Another thing, tho It has digital numbers like 101, 102, i ved yet to see a picture. freind, I still don't know where to tie the 3 cables from the LNB. Thank you

On your feedhorn (where the LNB is) there is probably a blue box with a motor inside. This controls the polarity and skew which will fine tune your signal.
Without it you will not get a good picture, like you are getting.
From the back of the receiver there will be a 5V, pulse and ground which controls the motor. Red is 5v, Black is Ground and White is pulse or a symbol that looks kind of like this _-_
Whichever 3 wires are connected at the back of the receiver should be connected to the 3 at the little blue motor.
Then if the picture is still not clear, you can go into the menu of the 920 and adjust the skew to bring it in better.
If you can not find out which wires go from the actuator you may have to un-tape them to have a look. The fewer wires the better! Having more than you need will only confuse things.

Once you get a good signal on the analog channels (like C-Span) then you will be able to get a proper digital signal to get the other channels you speak of.

Now we're cooking with gas. That sounds a lot easyer. I'll get on it soon as the sun goes down a little and thanks for all your help. As an ex- Ku band Mod I really don't have much experiance with C band.
