Why have tv cable and components gotten so expensive? Things that cost $2.00 five to ten years ago are now $10-20. I picked up a couple splitters at a local hardware store a few days ago, and I noticed that the older looking splitters were $2.99, but an identical one marked "Digital" was $14.99 (same part number, but different packaging). Older packaging coaxial cable marked $3.99 was now $12.99. Looking around at everything they had, sometime in the last couple years they had a packaging change with the newer packaged components costing between 300-1000% more. I realize the cost of living has increased, but that's ridiculous.
