Nielsen Ratings: Cable News TV Ratings for Monday, January 26, 2009

You might consider checking out the Election night ratings. Fox News got spanked by CNN.

Most people who think news think CNN. But most people don't watch cable news in prime time, either, when nothing is going on. Fox News in the news channel of news junkies, CNN is the news channel of most everyone else who doesn't constantly watch news.

Doesn't matter. The press release Scott posted says FNC is going to AT100.

The problem here is that Fox News is not really using the HD.

It's like CNBC-HD, there is a little box in the upper left with the same exact picture from the SD channel, with a panel of news info to the right and below.

( See the photo in the first thread. )

In the case of CNBC-HD, there is some validity to the stock charts that they show that complement their content, but here it is just filling the space, because they still have the crawl from the SD channel anyway.

Lastly, if you want to see hot babes in HD, watch Bikini Destinations on HD-Net on Thursdays, rather than waiting for the various channels to actually show some HD content.

Ask most people off the street what the top cable news outlet is, and you will hear CNN. Sorry you prefer different.
You seem determined to convince me that I should accept CNN as a reasonable and unbiased standard for tv journalism. Well, I don't. As for the people off the street, they can dictate what news channel I should be satisfied with when they pay my Dish Network bill every month. No need to pity me for having the audacity of independent thought. I'm fine with it.

CNBC is the standard "financial" news channel. It has a far different focus than CNN. But the fact is the most liberal news channel and most conservative channel os on the same tier.
Again, your attempting to have CNN accepted as the non-biased, middle-ground standard for news. Nice try.

Also, what law says Dish needs to provide equal access to Fox News? Don't like it, leave!!!
The very idea that there would be a law to mandate what news channels must be provided by a consumer funded service is just wrong. I am simply a paying customer who has an opinion about programming packages. I reject your invitation to leave. There is no shame in me stating my preferences. Having Fox News is not a deal breaker for me. I don't watch news networks that much, but when I do I prefer Fox.

Well, you seemed to need that pointed out. It seems you think the channels you want should be in AT100, and the channels you don't want should be in AT250. Since you do find this obvious, I'll say it. CNN, Fox News, FBN, CNBC, and MSNBC are ALL junk (but particularly Fox News). I guess they all go on higher tiers.
Yes I do. I've been a loyal, punctually-paying Dish Network customer for over 8 years. Why should I not at least have my opinion considered?

The fact is, we all have choice. And :))-joking), its not my fault you want socialism, billing everyone so you can get Fox News.
We do for now. And (;) recognizing classic passive-aggressive manipulation tactics) no , I pull my own weight. If having Fox News in the basic tier is not economically efficient then so be it. But if Fox News can be included in the basic tier and still have Dish Network be a good value to all, then MAKE IT HAPPEN. But nice try, your attempt at twisting a conservative ideal was not lost on me.

And Fox news has been AT200 for a long time. It's not like this is a new development.
Yeah, really? I didn't notice that, all the years I was paying extra to have FNC before I switched to HD Only.

You may feel that CNN is general and not loaded with liberal bias, but I don't. I watch it, but I can only take so much of it.

I think that CNN has recently moved to a very centrist position, since they can see MSNBC on their left, and FoxNews on their right. (Notice that CNN's early prime time program is called "No Bias No Bull").

They also have more hard news, and less of Caylee Anthony, Natalie Holloway, Scott Peterson and other tabloid news that has made Fox News the highest in appeal to female audiences (hence the high ratings).

Actually that corresponds to my previous post, since beautiful women are automatically "high status" and therefore more likely to be believed and accepted - especially by other women.

The problem here is that Fox News is not really using the HD.<snip>...

Maybe the problem's with "E" because FNC runs full HD from 5pm until wee hours of the morning every day on my cable channel or could it be that you have a very limited scope of what FNC really runs and speculated from there? Cm'on Stu, could there be a little liberal bias there? :) JK

Seriously big guy, I know at least starting with Beck at 5-6 pm, then Bret Baier 6-7, then News with Shepard Smith 7-8pm, then O'Reily Factor 8-9, then Hanson from -10 and I think Greta from 10 to 11pm is also HD. Then they do repeats of a lot of those starting at 11pm. I thing Fox & Friends in the morning is HD too.

And Fox News is a non-biased middle ground standard?

The fact is, of MSNBC, CNN, and Fox News, CNN lies closest to the middle. It's not there, but it is closest.

But it DOESN'T MATTER ANYMORE. Press Release says FNC is going to AT100/Classic Bronze So be happy.

I have the everything package and the gold and platinum hd. My foxnws hd is still red and not down converted. I wll check again tommorrow; rather watch hd hockey right now.

NBNB anchored by Campbell Brown, the babe that was so in the tank for Obama that they did a parody of her on SNL.

Anyway, I have the AT200 package with HD and I really enjoyed watching O'Reilly and all the babes he had on tonight.

I have Turbo HD Gold w/Plat. All of my Fox HD's are Red. Tried online Tech Support, this was my answer.........

(24DrDcb) Corey O AGZ: Great. Currently, Fox News and Fox Business News are only available in our Classic Gold 250 with the HD addon; they're not available in the TurboHD Gold standalone pack, though they may be in the future.

Not what I wanted to hear.............But probably wrong info...I Hope!

Well - I have Fox News HD and FOXB on my 211 receiver but no Fox News HD on my 722... I wonder what that is all about? I already did the Check Switch on my 722, but no cigar... Anyone else seeing anything similar?

I'm not trying to convince anyone here to share my opinion about FNC's political position relative to the middle. In fact I haven't even declared what that opinion is. I simply stated that I prefer Fox News. Furthermore it's not my goal to have a neutral, or even average, opinion.

I agree with you that you believe CNN is the closest to being a neutral TV journalism benchmark.

I checked my Dish Network statment. My programming package is now referred to as "Absolute HD" with Locals. Right now my guide has it highlighted in RED. I hope that changes and I get access to Fox without losing other channels I already have and like. If not, then I'll just have to get over it.

It is good to hear that Fox will be placed in the basic tier, though. Then people who believe Fox is closest to being a neutral TV journalism benchmark can have it without paying extra to get it. Or better yet we can have CNN and FNC on a level field keeping each other in check. Competition could bring out the best in both parties.

I did not say "in HD", I said "not really using the HD".

Bret Bair and Shepard Smith were both the CNBC style "SD feed in a corner with text around it".

Beck, O'Reilly and Hannity (not Hanson) were in true HD.... but.... all three shows were shot and framed for SD. I switched back and forth and the only thing missing in the SD was curtains and other backgrounds. Their studios have 1 or 2 HD cameras for host plus one guest, so you see the talking heads in HD. Being male, that means nothing to me for all three shows. Greta was also in HD, and so was her guest Newt, and again, zero advantage over the SD feed.

Due to that, I often record CNBC shows in SD to save disk space in my 622.

Shows like Lost or sports gain big time from HD. News channels do not, especially since none of them have HD cameras out in the field (other than the one that seems planted in the ground in front of Congress. ;)

PS No liberal bias here, in fact, I am one of the least politically biased people I know. I disagree with most everyone on both MSNBC and Fox News. :D I often disagree with Lou Dobbs and Larry Kudlow, even though they have opposite viewpoints. I find that both Shepard Smith and Wolf Blitzer try to be as balanced as possible, and most of the others do not bother.
