HD Absolute - how long?

+37, or whatever number we're on. :)

I'm an HD Absolute sub, and couldn't be happier. First, HD locals get lit up last week, and now I've got Comedy Central, Spike, CMT, VH1...don't see MTV or Nick though.

But I'm happy nonetheless. Especially since thread-after-thread, everyone kept telling me that there was no way HD Absolute would be seeing any more new HD channels, EVAH. Me and my $43/mo beg to differ. ;)

You get VH1 ? You sure about that ? If I recall correctly, other Absolute subs only rec'd Comedy Central, Spike, and CMT. No VH1, MTV nor Nick.

I have absolute and Happy with it. I wish I had ALL 1 million Channels of HD. Also The ABsolute package was never advertised. Only way to know about it was ask. Only way I found out I can have this Package was here in the forum. Even the guy I can remember last year in may did not know about this package, took me 30min on da phone bein transfered alot to finally get the package.

I don't know if you consider Dishnetwork.com as advertisement for their own programming, but I found out about it by doing the dish builder during the time of it being offered. I just selected HD only (or something like that). It wasn't hard to find for me (new customer). But it may have been for existing customers, as it obviously wasn't being marketed to existing customers (Dish lose money on each existing sub? No way!)

I didn't 'ask' but it showed up right there along with the other programming choices.

If my memory serves right, it was announced during the 2008 CES, but there were hardly any good channels other than VOOM. I made the switch after CNN was added around this time last year.

I should pay more attention... so after all the assumption absolute wouldn't see any new channels, now we get Comedy Central, Spike, and CMT? that's two more channels I'll watch now that i have them, and I STILL feel like I'm getting a great deal.

the only other channels I want, really, are SPEED, BBC America, and FX.

man, score one for my checkbook, though, this is just more reasons to never leave absolute

The DishHD (only) package -- now called HD Absolute -- has had a variable history of "availability" via Dish's web site.. At times the package was not even listed in the HD packages section. But in general, you could find it in Dish Builder (as you did). however you needed to select the right options, which BTW were NOT the ones offered by default. Which leads me (and others) to beleive that coupled with the lack of RSN channels, there are not many current HD Absolute subs. In fact I hope this is the case, since it reduces the pressure for Dish to try to convert/force us to packages that are either more costly or have less HD channels -- or BOTH :)

I truely feel sorry for former HD absolute subs that fell for the pitch of the new TurboHD only packages only to find they not getting all the new HD regardless of how much they are willing to pay Dish:(

Talon Dancer

p.s. a quick scan of the HD Only EPG shows I'm not missing much currently avaialble HD as an HD Absolute Sub :) And if Dish thinks I'll EVER be paying them for SD content (except local PBS) they have another think coming

Up until the end of 2008, we got every HD channel (not counting premiums). What HD channels have been added in 2009 ? And remember, we weren't supposed to get *any* new HD after the end of 2008...

And from experience, at most there is 10x whatever number we get to. Enthusiastic people make lots of noise. I've been back for a few days but had been off the board for a good while before that. I remember CEO telling us to upgrade, but I didn't realize they dumped the package after offering it for only a short time. I had dish Silver, 3 years ago. Switched to Dish at the start of NFL 2 years ago and put my Dish account on hold. That lasted for a 6 month maximum, still paying $10 a month for the privilege of not having them come and take the dish off the roof. Then upgraded to family package and with lease fee was paying $25 for literally no channels, did get FNC, but I'm sure you realize why I'm not interested in that. The info babes are good looking, but if you want to tease your penis then look at pornography.

A few days ago I flirted with adding Zee vision (cricket channel) or the superstations, or the locals at least so I would get the EPG info for local channels to make recording easier, but I'm not changing a damn thing. It really is perfect and if they wanted me to pay more for a different package E* dish would be the one to go. But perfect as it is. Maybe add another 211 for downstairs that would be the only other thing, but it's so perfect that adding that really isn't relevant.

Thanks for getting us to the 40's!

Ever use dish.sling.com for OTA local recording? I see them come up for me and record CBS because I don't get the EPG info for that local on my receiver. It is as easy as it gets, even better than using the receiver remote for finding what you want.

So..I counted 54 HD channels including 4 Cinemax channels and excluding local HDs...
Good idea.

I counted 50 HD Channels as well in the base Absolute HD package (because I don't have Cinemax). This doesn't include any: VOD, PPV, 'Red' unavailable, Order, , nor Premium movie channels.
On top of that, I get 8 HD Local channels - so my count is up to 58! :D

I actually found 2 more that I had locked/hidden (NBA & NHL), even though I don't watch them.. So we're doing great compared to the Turbo - unless you need more sports channels. I think that's every HD you can get from Turbo Gold + Platinum.

FYI: I added another 211 to my package 3 weeks ago without it affecting my HD absolute sub. I made sure of that, I ask the csr 3 times an did everything short of getting it in writing. They are not tricking me out of the HD absolute pack:p

Are you in Los Angeles? Is NBC down?

Should I keep Dish Appointment ?
