Kijiji, eBay, and Craigslist dishes for you to take a look at

on Viagra

Yes, Birdview dishes are on a 6 inch diameter tube.
They don't flex. :)
Neither does the dish. ;)

Kinda hard to tune up.
You can't push the dish left nor right.
Can't lift up nor pull down either.

If your wife said "No nine foot dishes!", you can squeak by with this.

From that angle, I can't see the bend in the legs as a ChannelMaster/Andrew would have.
Nosecones get changed, so I wouldn't bet the farm on that alone.
I took the liberty of expanding the pic and from the shadow of the feed support leg you can tell its bent in the classic CM/Andrew way. Some very old CM fiberglass dishes don't have that center plate. See first pic. It's an early version CM that has the model name "Channel Master TVRO" on the front. These versions have no backside ribbing

Are they flimsy? What diameter do you think it is?

I'm not 100% sure how flimsy they are cause I have never got my hands on one but the 2 I have seen from ground level reminded me of how an old fibergass canoe looks. It looked like the older versions had thinner fiberglass than the newer SMC versions. I don't think they are flimsy per se ..... just not as rock solid thick and precision molded like the SMC newer versions.

As for diameter that one looks definitely 8 feet. The CM 8 foot versions have the support legs closer to the edge of the dish than the 10 foot versions. The legs are approx 6" away on the 8 footers & approx 12" away on the 10 footers.

Yes, I did see a hint of the leg bend (bottom leg), but wasn't going out on a limb with such a poor picture. ;)

The one offered seems an 8'er.
Note how close to the dish edge the legs mount.
But in your reference picture below, see how far inboard the legs intercept the dish.
I'm calling that a 10'er.

Suspect they just made the one leg assembly and used it on both sizes most of the time.
Have seen some pictures where I couldn't tell, so maybe there was a change somewhere.

Off hand, I wouldn't get in bed with an old fiberglass that didn't have backside ribs. :down

Agreed O wise one. The one referenced is a 10 footer. I also wouldn't want a fiberglass dish without backside ribbing. All 3 CM's I've seen had the surface coating eaten away by exposure exposing the raw glass. So if it gets wet on an old version that is thinner and has no ribbing for stiffening ...then goodness knows how much the surface has warped or sagged from the ideal parabolic shape. this pic is from my CM I'm restoring. you can see how the glass fibres are exposed. We had a SatGuys member find a CM/A 8'er in the western American desert, where he lived. (New Mexico)?
It had been sandblasted by the blowing wind, exposing the fibers.
He did a hell of a fine restoration with paint (to reseal the surface) and light sanding (to remove the fibers standing up).

If you haven't read his thread, I strongly insist you look for it! :up
If you find a single tip you hadn't thought of, it might make a big difference.

And of course, post a thread when you are done, with pictures along the way! :up ;)

Lookin' good

I don't know the model names but that one at Latrobe looks like a Winegard, maybe even a perf, good stuff.
Owner says 8'. Could it be 10'?
Because I think that might be a Zenith mount (?)...and emblem on the front hub...
...which were built by Winegard, so you're probably right.
I don't know the history, but 8' or 10', a Winegard perf should be a fine trophy. :up
