They said the Hopper Duo is only allowed for up to 2 TV's . They are given us a $15.00 credit to account for the Super Joey for next three months (Contract is up in 3 months) , and if this cures our problem of pixelation they will give us a $20.00 per month credit for 24 months if we sign up again in December. Our bill will be $51.00 per month.

I still don't like this deal. Do we know for certain that the HwS doesn't have this issue as well? I thought it did in which case they are suggesting a downgrade for nothing.

I will make an update on how it works. They'll be here between 8-10 in the morning to install it.

There is no way that I would downgrade my Hopper 3 because DISH can’t fix an obvious software issue. That said, I bet a fix could happen yet. It’s just how things go.

:( Get it in writing that they will upgrade you again when this issue is resolved. Or when the HwS proves to have the same issue.

Here it is (confirming that it does have the issue) from post number 10 of this very thread!
Upon turning off the HWS and moving to a TV with a Joey, I would many times get that ripped/torn picture.
I also used to be forced to do a RBR to my HWS to get the Joey to display properly, very annoying. But I discovered that if I switched my Joey to an OTA channel for a while, this issue would clear itself up. Sometimes just moving through several channels will eventually clear things up as well. An obvious software issue.
What we admittedly don't know is whether this also happens with Super Joeys (the proposed "solution") or only with regular Joeys.

As I said before . I'm just tired of doing a hard reset on the Hopper 3 three to four times a day. Not only does it screw up all our recordings, It's just become nerve racking, and I'm willing to try anything at this point. I pretty much did a comparison of the Hopper 3 and The Hopper Sling. Yes I lose some tuners, but 5 tuners with the Super Joey plus 2 OTA tuners should be enough for the two of us. As to the slower channel changing, Directv is just as bad changing channels. We'll just have to get use to it again. I also get to keep my Hopper 3 for a while to make sure it doesn't do it with the HWS, because if it does, I'm going to switch back to the Hopper 3. The same goes with the Joey.

I'll bet that if a whole lot of customers suddenly start switching to other Hopper equipment to "fix" the issue themselves, then the actual fix for the Hopper 3 issue will come a lot faster. ;)

Well they sent the whole team out. Luckily I was getting the pixelation when they all showed up. All signals were perfect after running test, etc. They installed another new Hopper 3 and installed two new wired Joey 3's . They aren't buying that the U935 update is the problem and did a manual software update on the Hopper. We'll see how things work out. I just laughed at them when they told me that the wired Joey 3's would not pixelate (Guaranteed) this time.

My wired Joey 3.0 has pixellated from time to time. Had to reboot the Hopper 3 the last time, changing to an OTA channel would not clear the problem.

Did you tell them that you know of many other folks here at SatGuys that are experiencing the same issue? That some even had all of their hardware replaced and it happened again?

Unfortunately, the proposed downgrade to HWS may have actually been the better option. I went back through a couple of the Joey pixilation threads here, and only found one HWS user who posted about this problem. (The same member posted in a couple of the threads. I also went through a third thread, with no HWS users complaining in that one.) So, while this issue does happen on other Hopper models, it seems to be a lot more rare on those. Hopper 3 is by far the problem child here.

Yes, and I even showed them the posts. I'm assuming this isn't a big problem in Oklahoma, Yet! They said they'll do whatever I want them to do if it starts again. I'm just happy it was pixelating when they showed up. They were running about an hour behind schedule, which worked out perfect, because it literally started pixelating about a minute or two before they showed up.

We made it about 30 hours before it started again. I’m going to go ahead and downgrade my system with the hopper w/sling and try it.

Update: I'm a little reluctant to post this, and I'm knocking on wood as I type this, but after my post from last Thursday and another 3 hours on the phone with Dish on Friday my system has worked perfectly . I haven't had any pixelation in over 5 days now, and haven't had to reset the Hopper3 once. They have done something to fix my issue. I'm planning on calling them today to see if there is any notes from the engineering department of what they may have done so I can share with you guys, The only new issue I seem to have is my bedroom Joey3 won't do the 10 seconds rewind when you tap the rewind button ( Tried two other remotes) You have to press and hold and do a fast rewind, but I can live with that. My other Joey3 works just fine. I'm a happy Dish Customer again!

Yes, the HWS has the same issue which is also articulated in the Joey Pixilation thread. I thought the consensus was that it was a software issue and that Dish finally acknowledged it.
This issue has been with us for a while now.

Which one? (I am kidding.) ;)

But seriously, mods, maybe it is time to merge these threads:
