Other than including the markets for the AT&T HQ and that the LCC is doing the testing, it appears to be random, according to those who do the analysis and know much more than me. Here is the list of markets that have been updated, from the CE site:
3 - Albany-Schenectady-Troy NY
10 - Atlanta GA
12 - Austin TX
21 - Binghamton NY
35 - Charlotte NC
36 - Charlottesville VA
39 - Chicago IL
51 - Dallas-Ft Worth TX
53 - Dayton OH
56 - Detroit MI
63 - Eureka CA
69 - Fort Myers-Naples FL
73 - Gainesville FL
90 - Houston TX
92 - Idaho Falls-Pocatello ID
106 - Lansing MI
108 - Las Vegas NV
113 - Los Angeles CA
120 - Medford-Klamath Falls OR
124 - Milwaukee WI
125 - Minneapolis-St Paul MN
134 - New York NY
140 - Orlando-Daytona FL
153 - Providence RI-New Bedford MA
162 - Rockford IL
165 - Salt Lake City UT
168 - San Diego CA
174 - Shreveport LA
177 - South Bend-Elkhart IN
178 - Spokane WA
183 - Syracuse NY
186 - Terre Haute IN
188 - Topeka KS
208 - Yakima-Pasco-Richland WA
210 - Yuma AZ
4 - Albuquerque-Santa Fe NM
115 - Lubbock TX
147 - Philadelphia PA
148 - Phoenix AZ
174 - Shreveport LA
185 - Tampa-St Petersburg FL
199 - Washington DC - Hagerstown MD

The numbers next to the DMA are not the market size, but the market number which is a Directv thing, assigned alphabetically.
Thx for the info! I live in one of the updated markets.

The additional channels are in the guide. Curious when the guide will show the program details instead of “regular schedule”?

It should should should the program details. In the call sign box, are you seeing (a) WXXXDT2 or KXXXDT2 OR (b) Bounce or KXXX-SD, for example? If you're seeing it the first way (a), that is from Directv's database. If you're seeing it the second way (b), you need to re-do your AM21 setup. They also re-enabled the AM21s to display non-database subchannels for everyone, but it shows the PSIP call sign and "regular schedule" for data (that is shown as b from above). If you live in one of those markets and don't see program data by just rerunning the setup, disconnect your AM21, and reset it. Reset your receiver without your AM21. Reconnect your AM21 and set it up and hopefully it will use the new database entries and clear out whatever it found before.

If you don't live in one of those markets, you can re-run your AM21s and it will display all your subchannels. It will even show LPs, Canadian channels, and translators. Just "regular schedule" for everything not in the database of course, but this is definitely progress. When your market is updated, clear it out and set it back up and it should show program data for all the subchannels of primary, full power channels. I don't think they are adding the LPs (unless it's a major network or one of the rare ones carried by Directv probably) and definitely not Canadian channels. The database already has Mexican border channels (some are US afffiliates) so that will probably continue.

Someone on the other site said that the HS17, with software 1147, now has a OTA support screen in the setup menus.

Interesting ... they must have the new OTA tuner then, right ?
It has been in the HS17 menu screens for the last 2 months with the CE cycle. The AM21 does not work. Since no one has a LCC yet it can’t be tested

Looks like they are trending $50 used.

I had about 40 new ones from when I had our online store I forgot about. Got $225 each :)
I had four AM21s that I had collected over the years on and off with DirecTV. When I went back to DirecTV recently, I started using a couple of them again. The reception was not good at all, stations kept popping in and out. This did not happen with each television's internal tuner, and with a TiVo Roamio OTA. With the pending release of the LCC, I decided to sell these old things while the getting was good and just use the TiVo for OTA recording. I got about $100 each for them off of eBay.

Leaving my 3mbs down DSL connection in Nevada five years ago I was an AT&T hater but hung as a loyal 21 yr DirecTV subscriber. For the past two years I've fooled around with "cord-cutting", a misnomer, but despite having OTA attic antennas and GB fiber, DirecTV, to me, just does it all better. The last few months we've had glimpses of Internet delivery, revived OTA tuning and recording, and a proposed new Android box that would add "streaming" apps.

Today, I am doubling down and ditching my 2line T-Mobile70 buck unlimited plan and my coop's 1GB fiber. AT&T's new military and veterans incentives have enticed me to go all in with their Unlimited Premium, GB fiber, bundled with DirecTV.

Another incentive is that I was overrun by Florence. T-Mobile was severely degraded, my fiber Internet failed, but my DirecTV sat survived after the deluge stopped. Neighbors with AT&T fiber, if they had power, had Internet. I do have a natural gas Generac which was the real champ through that mess.

I'm all in with AT&T.

Yeah ...

See the under the "OTA" tab of the Domestic TPN map Excel spreadsheet d/I'd from the iamanedgecutter site here;

Transponder Maps: Domestic, Mexico, Latin ~ Data 11/28/2018

I thought the TPN maps covered Local channel rebroadcasts from the sats. The OTA database is used by the AM21's and new LCC to feed the Guide and allow DVR scheduling of the OTA's. Locals come from the birds and OTA's come from your personal antenna whether a coat hanger or a giant rooftop array of yore. I've opted for two BBQ racks with bow ties in the attic.

No, both types of listings are included in the TPN spreadsheet map. Those under the "OTA" tab are the latest entries in the OTA database for the AM21s/LCCs currently spooling out from the satellite.

Those for the actual satellite delivered locals (i.e., usually via spotbeams) are under the "LOCALS" tab.

It should also be noted that AM21s (and I assume LCC's) will also display any channel your antenna receives, even if it is not in the database. This includes, LPs, translators, Canadian channels, subchannels not updated yet, etc. This is relatively new. It will display those channels with the PSIP ID in the call sign and "Regular Schedule" for programming data. Once your market is updated, you must clear your AM21 and re-do the set-up to get the updated listings. Updated markets will usually only update listings for full-power channels (or LPs carried by Directv) and the subchannels associated with those channels, so an "updated" market will not be completely updated.

Well, I just lost two hours of my life. Having heard of the Local Channel Connector, I tried to speak th DTV about it. 1.5 hours of getting my call dropped and clueless CSR's I finally got one that knew what I was talking about. But she rigidly steadfastly told me they would not ship to me, only to Utah residents. She suggested I get my own antenna and connect it to my tv... even after I explained, very kindly that I wanted to be able to record OTA. No information about a timeline. Nothing.

DTV customer service got better when ATT took over and was good a year ago. Now it is pee poor! Are they trying to get rid of customers???

As you have found out, the new ota connector isn't available nationally yet.
