1. Is it time for Yankee fans to panic? What was once a strength is now an uncertainty. Pettitte's persistent groin issue, Vazquez demoted to the bullpen, Burnett is suddenly undependable. Uh oh.

2. Should MMA be covered by newspapers and Sportscenter? It's a sport that's become very popular as of late, yet a lot of media outlets still refuse to cover it.

3. If the Yankees somehow don't make the playoffs, can you imagine how dismal the TV ratings will be?

4. What does MLB need to do to generate more interest and revive America's once favorite pastime?

5. Tiger's divorce is final. Finally. When does he win his next Major? If ever?

6. 1 week until the start of College Football, 2 weeks until the start of NFL! What's the best Week 1 matchup for both leagues?

7. The Minnesotta Vikings lost Sydney Rice to hip surgery and Percy Harvin has serious on-going migrane issues. Yes they got Favre back, but there was already next to no chance he repeats the career year he had last year. Now his top two targets are questionable? Uh oh. Perhaps this isn't the story book ending that should've been.

8. Will Revis get signed before the season starts?

9. Defense in the NFL isn't what it used to be. It's a QB league now. If you don't throw the ball successfully, you don't win. This is why the Ravens drafted Flacco and recently signed Anquan Boldin. This is why the Jets signed Santonio Holmes. This is why the Cardinals will regress this year (Warner retiring). It's the reason for the Saints success and Minnesota's catapult into the upper echelon of NFL elites. Like it or not, defense doesn't win Championships on it's own anymore.

10. I try to stay away from fast food as much as possible and do my best to only eat "real food". Ie, locally fresh produce, unprocessed meat, etc. But today I slipped up and went to Taco Bell. They have these new Cantina Taco's with fresh Corn Tortillas that looked pretty appetizing. Well, take my word: they're not! Absolutely terrible! I still taste the faux ingredients and rubbery tortilla an hour after lunch. YUCK!

If that's the case, they'll be like the 2004 team all over again- all hit, no pitch.

2. Should MMA be covered by newspapers and Sportscenter? It's a sport that's become very popular as of late, yet a lot of media outlets still refuse to cover it.
Yes. It's a lot better than some of these boxing matchups ESPN hypes to the moon.

3. If the Yankees somehow don't make the playoffs, can you imagine how dismal the TV ratings will be?
FOX has the rights to the NLCS, and if there's a game 7, it would be opposite Vikings-Packers on Sunday night at Lambeau (aka Favre Bowl III). That could be a ratings mismatch!

4. What does MLB need to do to generate more interest and revive America's once favorite pastime?
More primetime games on FOX, more team variety. More people watch baseball at night than in the daytime. They have to stop the nomad approach!

6. 1 week until the start of College Football, 2 weeks until the start of NFL! What's the best Week 1 matchup for both leagues?
With all due respect to the Vikings-Saints Thursday opener, the NFL game I want to see in week 1 is Bengals-Patriots. As for the college game, I want to see Oregon State vs. TCU.

The Vikings do have good RB's in Adrian Peterson and they got a steal in Toby Gerhart. Their plan B style could simply be to go with a ground-and-pound style ala the Jets.

8. Will Revis get signed before the season starts?
Yes. I say he signs between the third and fourth preseason games.

Jimbo will be dissapointated to hear that. :D

1. Is it time for Yankee fans to panic? What was once a strength is now an uncertainty. Pettitte's persistent groin issue, Vazquez demoted to the bullpen, Burnett is suddenly undependable. Uh oh. You know, they will still make the playoffs, but I have a strange feeling they will not be going far IN the playoffs with what you have mentioned above. They would have to HOPE for a rookie to pull them through or pick-up someone from waivers, and the chances of a decent arm getting through waivers are about as good as Lindsay Lohan NOT getting locked up again!

2. Should MMA be covered by newspapers and Sportscenter? It's a sport that's become very popular as of late, yet a lot of media outlets still refuse to cover it.
I actually like the MMA, but to me, it is more of a curiosity than a sport. YES, they need skill and for the most part, you do have to be in some sort of physical shape to win.... but...ah....well...hard to explain.

4. What does MLB need to do to generate more interest and revive America's once favorite pastime? Dude, that is a complete thread all to itself. 2, 3 or 4 sentences is not gonna do justice to what really needs to be done to improve the best game in the world(to me!:D)

5. Tiger's divorce is final. Finally. When does he win his next Major? If ever?
As soon as he start hittin' the waitresses at the IHOPS to relieve stress... You think I am kidding?

6. 1 week until the start of College Football, 2 weeks until the start of NFL! What's the best Week 1 matchup for both leagues? Will get back to you on this one.

8. Will Revis get signed before the season starts? Yep. The JETS need him more than he needs the JETS. And sooner or later, the Fat-Tub-of-Gu's brother pull the ownership to the side and politely say, "I need this guy signed with 2 weeks to practice if you want him ready for day one". IF they do not sign him, there passing defense become that much more weaker.

Defense DOES win championships....but not total and complete dominance like before. Playing great defense at the right time is what wins championships...defenses "bending not breaking" wins championships. You can win that Super Bowl making that key sack, tackle for a loss or batted away pass in the opportune moment....even if the defense has given up 24 points.

10. I try to stay away from fast food as much as possible and do my best to only eat "real food". Ie, locally fresh produce, unprocessed meat, etc. But today I slipped up and went to Taco Bell. LOL!! Wait till "later in the day", if ya know what I mean? ;):(

MY 2 cents...;)

1. Is it time for Yankee fans to panic? What was once a strength is now an uncertainty. Pettitte's persistent groin issue, Vazquez demoted to the bullpen, Burnett is suddenly undependable. Uh oh.

Not sure if panic is the right word, but it would be disingenous to say there is not cause for concern. Burnett was up and down all year last year too, including in the playoffs. We're all hoping Andy comes back strong.

At the very least, if we have CC and Phil Hughes at full strength, even if we have nobody else, we should be very competitive. If at least one of Pettitte/Vazquez/Burnett gets it together as well (two would be nice!) we should be in good shape.

2. Should MMA be covered by newspapers and Sportscenter? It's a sport that's become very popular as of late, yet a lot of media outlets still refuse to cover it.

MMA? NNO

3. If the Yankees somehow don't make the playoffs, can you imagine how dismal the TV ratings will be?

I will watch either way. That's all that matters to me.

4. What does MLB need to do to generate more interest and revive America's once favorite pastime?

I agree with salsadancer, cannot be answered in one paragraph.

5. Tiger's divorce is final. Finally. When does he win his next Major? If ever?

I care more about the MMA ;)

6. 1 week until the start of College Football, 2 weeks until the start of NFL! What's the best Week 1 matchup for both leagues?

Well all the premature trash talking from ACC-land and South Florida already has me looking forward to September 11 at the 'Shoe.

Give it time...it's still VERY early.

8. Will Revis get signed before the season starts?

I hope so. The Jets probably will not be the number one defense in the NFL without him.

It's cyclical.

Nothing worse than indulging in something decadent and not enjoying it!

MLB needs to start WS games at 7 p.m. local time, maybe 4 p.m. on Saturdays. No more of this
"one size fits all" starting time. 8 p.m. is an improvement over 8:40 p.m. but still does not address
games ending too late for the young un's and starting too early for left coasters. This is the way it was when day games were the norm.
When the Yankees were in the series, games started at 1:05 p.m. When the games were in LA, games started at 4 p.m. Eastern, 1 p.m. Pacific.
It makes sense. That's one reason it will never be that way again.

sportscenter wont care because its a sport they dont have interest in (ie: NBA, NFL)

3. If the Yankees somehow don't make the playoffs, can you imagine how dismal the TV ratings will be?
they might be better IMO....fresh faces might make folks tune in

4. What does MLB need to do to generate more interest and revive America's once favorite pastime?
my carpal tunnel would act up if I responded but I will make 2 notes
-start playoff games earlier
-weekend DAY games in the playoffs :)
5. Tiger's divorce is final. Finally. When does he win his next Major? If ever?
he may win one but not anytime soon

7. The Minnesotta Vikings lost Sydney Rice to hip surgery and Percy Harvin has serious on-going migrane issues. dude its SIDNEY rice

I'm not worried yet...even without them 2 the Vikes will still have a better record than the Browns :p

8. Will Revis get signed before the season starts?
who?

10. I try to stay away from fast food as much as possible and do my best to only eat "real food". Ie, locally fresh produce, unprocessed meat, etc. But today I slipped up and went to Taco Bell. ewww you went to Taco Hell? What were you thinking?

3. If the Yankees somehow don't make the playoffs, can you imagine how dismal the TV ratings will be?

They will be dismal regardless if they keep starting games at 9-10-11 PM in the playoffs.

5. Tiger's divorce is final. Finally. When does he win his next Major? If ever?
Next year.

8. Will Revis get signed before the season starts?
Originally, I thought that Yes, he'll be back in just before the first game, now I'm not so sure.

9. Defense in the NFL isn't what it used to be. It's a QB league now. If you don't throw the ball successfully, you don't win. This is why the Ravens drafted Flacco and recently signed Anquan Boldin. I disagree. Sorta ...
D* STILL wins Championships, without it you'll get ran over.

More Random Thoughts.....

11. In today's NFL, I truly think that defense will get you to the playoffs, but offense will win you the Super Bowl. Sorry, but I just can't see the Bears of the 80's or Steelers of the 70's having the same domination on defense in today's game. The rules in today's game favor the QB and the offense. With 4 WR's lining up and the QB not being allowed to get hit, I think the QB's/Offenses of today would find a way to shred those vaulted defenses.

12. Anyone have Cliffs Notes on last nights Hard Knocks?

13. Does anyone watch The League on FX? The new season starts Sept. 16th.

14. 16 or 18? Pros and Cons. Discuss...

15. High school or College Football? A few guys I work with are maniacal about High School ball. Maybe you have to be a Dad to get high school football. I'm not and I don't get it.

16. The Bills are everyone's pick for most lousy team of the year, but what about the Tampa Bay Bucs? They are just as bad, if not worse!

17. I'm visiting my cousin in NYC in a few weeks. He's giving me the "No Reservation" tour. I don't want to go where the tourists go. I've already seen the Empire State Building, the Statue of Liberty and I've been to Virgin Records. On this trip, that's not what I want to do. I want to go eat where the locals eat and drink where the locals drink. Our goal is to have a unique meal in each of the boroughs. Any suggestions?

18. How many fantasy football leagues is too many? I limit myself to two leagues. Anything more would be an injustice to my team and league.

19. Has Cake jumped the shark? What's with all the Cake shows on Food Network/TLC lately? Cupcake Wars, Ace of Cakes, Cake Boss, etc. Enough already. Plus, fondant may look nice, but it tastes bad.

20. What would you rather spend your money on? Stuff or experiences? And what makes you more happy?

A rather intriguing article in the NY Times poses that very question. This hits home particular with myself. I have my 2k sq foot home that is currently for sale and in the next chapter of life, I plan on selling/donating the majority of my stuff and living minimalist in a smallish apartment with focus on location and more money to go out, travel, etc. I'd imagine that sounds bat s* crazy to a lot of people though. Anyways, here's the article....

12. Anyone have Cliffs Notes on last nights Hard Knocks?

It was F***** good. :D

Actually I don't remember one curse word from Rex Ryan, though I'm sure there were some. But the assistants..OOFFAA! Especially the special teams coach with bone cancer whose name escapes me at the moment.

No Revis
Rex not happy with the offense or the backups on defense.
Rex very happy with the number one defense unit.
Some 6-8 guy tore his achilles...very sad.
Nice comeback week by Joe McNight. He was brutalized by the coaches last week.
Some guy trying to make the team made a spectacular special teams hit in the Carolina game and Rex loved it.
They broke camp in Cortland
Rookie night was lame
Two little dudes trying to make the team, they'll probably get cut eventually though
Vernon Gholston is doing better now that they moved him to the D-line
Braylon Edwards still with the full beard
They didn't ask Cromartie to remember all of his kids again, thank goodness
There was a hazing by the veterans of some rookie who was mouthing off to a coach. Kinda ugly but I guess it happens everywhere.
The Jets training facility in Florham Park looks amazing

15. High school or College Football? A few guys I work with are maniacal about High School ball. Maybe you have to be a Dad to get high school football. I'm not and I don't get it.

Well I'm not a dad and I love high school football. My nephew is a sophomore at Toms River South and he's hoping to see a lot of time with the varsity this year, possibly a starter. He's a running back and a middle linebacker.

That said, I've been going to high school football games since before I even had nieces and nephews. Went to a lot in California too when I lived there. It's an amazing sport, so exciting.

17. I'm visiting my cousin in NYC in a few weeks. He's giving me the "No Reservation" tour. I don't want to go where the tourists go. If you really want the inside scoop on NYC check out http://tonionnewyork.com

Toni Senecal hosts a weekly show on channel 11 that gives New Yorkers the inside scoop on sights, eats and history around the city. She constantly refers to the website.

My personal quick favorite is Gyro II, which is on 7th avenue about two blocks from the Garden. Gyros and souvlaki to die for. We still go there before Ranger games when we can.

If you are going to be here in September during the San Gennero festival you really need to check that out in Little Italy. Ridiculously crowded, especially at night, but there are like a zillion street vendors, most of them selling something wonderful to eat.

18. How many fantasy football leagues is too many? I limit myself to two leagues. Anything more would be an injustice to my team and league.

One is too many for me. I just cannot fathom watching someone score on the Jets, and saying to myself 'well at least that receiver is on my fantasy team'. It blows my mind.

AND players are bigger, faster and stronger than players from the 70s, 80s and even 90s.

In some places, high school sports is VERY big. There are TWO radio shows dedicated to high school football and high school basketball during the season on two seperate radio stations.

18. How many fantasy football leagues is too many? I limit myself to two leagues. Anything more would be an injustice to my team and league.

I STILL think that joinging a fantasy league of any kind is sacrilegious as a sports fan. To hope some guy does well against YOUR favorite team is crazy...!! But maybe it's just me.

I will stick to Man vs. Wild and Dual Survivor thank you! ;)

When you have children, you have to give up some things for the sake of them and your sanity. Stuff for them, experiences for your family.

I could not agree more!   :)

Just don't get the fantasy thing. Isn't the outcome of the game all you need to hold your interest? Why do you need more?
