Well, after you do a "Factory Reset" all your TP;s and channels are gone. I think translation clarity is lacking. So I believe they mean reprogram your TP's and scanned in channels.
Copy the Pansat250SM_150M_080708_V148A_api.bin onto the USB stick .
Put it in the receiver, then Main Menu>>usb >>navigate to the bin file, highlightt it>>OK and OK again(I think) Let it reboot
Then Main Menu >> System Setup >> Factory Setting >> password >> then OK (I Think)
Another reboot, That will restore it to factory fresh. Scan sats again.

Hi Fat Air,
The instructions for loading a new bin and factory resetting seemed
to do the trick. Now that I am a stick expert I will try saving the sats
I have programmed.
So far I have gotten Intelsat 9 c and ku programmed. Nothing much on
intelsat 9 ku but it worked. Also got amazonas c and ku programmed.
Ku seems to be coming in nice. Must have got lucky. I need some of that.
Maybe the way I was doing the update caused the CW thing not to work.
Will check it out again

What is FEC and how do I set it to 3/4?
Thanks

FEC is the rate of applied Forward Error Correction. It's in Edit TP/Satellite. It's also in Advanced and TP Scan. Just use the right or left button to select, in both cases.

Hi Fat Air,
Just received another opportunity from the 250sm.
See the attached. Not a good picture but maybe you can see enough
to tell me what to do.
I was trying to set up G17 c-band when this occurred.
The shot is of the Antenna Setup screen.
This happened before and I did a factory reset to get out of it.
Fortunately I did a back up of the files just before this happened.

I don't know what would cause this. Puzzling. Did it just do this when you just entered the screen, or while making adjustments? I find with my 9200 to make changes and selections (any button pushed on remote) about 2 seconds apart. Seems to lock up a lot less. If I start to quickly push remote buttons, It's almost guaranteed to lock up.

Hi Fat Air,
This happenes (I think) when programming Sats.
This morning it happened to me again while trying to program
G25. Last night when it happened, I shut the receiver off for
5 minutes and it went away.
It also locks when there is nothing on a sat.
I locks when I hit the up or down arrows to quickly.

The software on the 250sm is the pits and Pansat doesn't
seem to care. I emailed them and they don't bother to answer.
Good public relations:(

Should I try to return the receiver?
But what receiver to replace it with?

Hi Shankle! Sorry to hear that pansat is giving you some headaches.Hope the problems can be solved but if not ! There are a couple of receivers that i would suggest. If i was you i would think of getting a upgrade to a HD receiver! These days HD is becoming more and more common on satellite. The models that seem popular here is the AZ box series and the Sathawk/Solomend (which i use)Both will do HD and dvb s2.DVB-s2 Is a digital tv broadcast that is becoming more popular in tv broadcasting vs DVB-s which your present receiver uses.I really dont know much about the Azbox recievers but one thing i do know is some models dont blindscan well or not at all.The solomend which i own has a very fast blindscan and will blind scan both dvb s and dvb s2 signals.Havent seen anything go wrong with it yet and never had it lock up yet.I have heard that the sathawk/solomend models have been replaced by the Openbox receiver which is basicly the same as the other two_One other factor is cost! The sathawk/solomend/open box cost is under $200 where the Azbox may cost $300 or more. You can look up both these types of receiver here on this forum! PS nice to see that your getting more satellites! looking Good!! Stan.

Hi Stanleyjohn,
I only do FTA. If I have to pay for something that should be free I
will go read a book and never watch TV. Isn't an HD receiver one
that you have to pay for programming? They are double dipping
and I am furious about it.
I do need a receiver that blind scans well. Also the manual should
be more than ten pages. Like 60 pages with a lot of explanation
for dummies. The company should have a forum on the internet
for people to ask questions. The company should take constructive
comments from users on improving their software. What company
does this?

I'm struggling through the sats but the stick made quite a difference.
It backed up what I did so far in less than 5 seconds.
Hope you are enjoying you new dish.
Jack

No, the HD FTA receivers are not for subscription. They actually do the next generation of DVB broadcast, called DVB-S2. Many feeds are switching to S2 as they can pack more into the same bandwidth on a transponder. Instead of being limited to about 8 video services on a transponder, they may be able to do 30 in standard definition + a few in High Def. Another trend is what's called 4.2.2. The only receivers I know of that will decode this is the Azbox. There are some feeds in 4.2.2, but in my view, not worth the expense now. This may change if there is a massive decrease in standard mpeg feeds in favor of 4.2.2. On The List, The S2 feeds/services have the green background. You don't need a HD television if the HD FTA receiver has a CH3/4 or Composite video output as my 9200 has, not sure about any other S2 capable (HD)receivers.
In reprogramming my 9200, I had to restore from backup at least a half dozen times.
Backups make it all a lot less aggravating. I know the 9200 locks up a LOT more than the 3500.
Since you've gotten so proficient, You might want to hook up the 2800 and try program that. Might work better. Especially if you clean out it's sat and TP list. Your mover numbers will be the same, so it shouldn't take long to scan in what you've already found with the 250. For backups on the 2800, I believe it uses a SD card instead of a USB. but the functions and operation are very similar.

Hi Fat Air,
The Pansat 2800 has neither a card or a usb connection.
Any updates involved disconnecting the unit and connecting it to the
computer to update it. No way that I know to back up what you
have programmed.

Hi Fat Air,
Got all the sats programmed and backed up.
Satmex5 came up with nothing and it shouldn't. Maybe it's the
F,P,R I entered. Another came up with about 100 stations but
none of them were viewable and they were not scrambled.

Stick. I assumed the backups are cumulative. In other words if
I back up 4 times the last backup will contain the other 3 backups.
So I should be able to delete the 1st 3 backups? Right.

Now I should be able to go through the sats and rename the ones
not on the "List" to XXXX and delete the tps. Then do a backup
and this should pretty well clean up the 250sm.

What is a "Data Transponder"? What value does it have for me?

The 2800 was always a problem. It ran hot. No card or usb port.
Same no support from Pansat. When is Pansat going to get their
act together?

Some sats have a high Level and high Q. Other sats only have a high
Level and no Q. Some neither. Perplexing...

What is a data transponder? What value is it to me?

Yes, you can delete all but the most recent backup. The data transponders are only a TP to aim on, no value other than that. Level and Q on various sats. Hard to say, is there anything in common between them?

I am perplexedby the differences between Lyngsat and the List.
For example: there is no brazilsat mentioned on the List but it
has signals that are available to fta. Can't understand the
language but I like some of the scenery and differneces in the
culture.

Some sats that are visible to us in North America don't beam their signals at us, I think that may be the case with Brasilsat.

I think there are websites that display the coverage area for a sats signal beam, not sure if Lyngsat does that, maybe someone will post a link for a site that does.

I've the impression that Brasilsat has some spillover into the SE US, but further north is out of footprint. C band on the List is done by ICE, with a 6 ft dish. and his location is Mpls, Mn. Think he'd need an 11 meter dish to see any signal on that sat.
www.satbeams.com shows nothing in NA for Brasilsat.
