Star Trek: Strange New Worlds

For those who don't regularly subscribe to Paramount+, consider subbing on the 25th, as that should carry you through to the end of the season.

There are ten episodes, but episode 2 comes the next day.
Thanks for this information about episode 2, as it looks like it is right after episode 1 on CTV Sci-Fi Channel. Thought it was a repeat, but they are different lengths in the program guide.

S4, Ep 1: Star Trek meets Jurassic Park! Was Ok, not great. Erica had the best lines.
Considering some of the clunkers in the previous season, I thought it was one of the better episodes (as long as you discard/ignore some science)! Fairly decent story line.

NOTE: The second episode was not shown after the first, as the guide for CTV Sci-Fi Channel has shown previously (but had been changed since my above post), so guess it will be shown next week.

I agree with Keith, considering how S3 went, this was a far better start. Sure, some of the science was sketchy, but from a strictly entertainment angle, I'd give this episode 4 and 1/2 out of 5 stars. Interesting plot, some laughs, and a good ending. I'd say more, but I don't want spoil anything for those who haven't seen it yet.

Loved this episode. Not only had time travel, but they were instrumental in the death of the dinosaur and an explosion that takes out the 5th planet that is now the asteroid belt and lead to the orbit of Mars moving further out away from the sun, sealing its fate as a dead planet in our time. So the Enterprise was always supposed to go back 65 million years. So much for the prime directive in this situation.

The bend-your-brain part was the not only was the Enterprise always supposed to go back 65m years, but that it always had.

Dedrie Hall revealed at SDCC, recognizable for any Days of our lives fans. Will appear in a S4 episode.

The writing was quite awful on that one. We've got these astronomy geniuses not grabbing the whole fifth planet thing. I think it would have been a much better episode (series of episodes) had they been stuck there for a while.

Glad you said that. I would have confused her for Gates McFadden.

Soap Opera Legend, can't believe she's 78.

She's been on Days of our Lives for 50 years. Mom used to record it to VHS all week and watch it a day or two later. It went digital only and forced her to learn how to use streaming apps.

She was on Days of Our Lives for years playing Marlena and she was possessed by the Devil for a long time on the show.:biggrin

Yeah... Her levitating off the bed was a bridge too far for me as a kid lol.

Was never a soap watcher, except for a brief time waaaay back in college and a bunch of students would gather in the lounge to watch All My Children. I did that during lunch for a few months and decided there were better ways to spend lunch hour...
I watched the three main soaps on ABC back in my 20s because I worked grave yards stocking and would watch them on my VCR in the afternoons when I got up after sleeping in the day. When I went to a dept. manager in the mornings, my buddy from the other department at Safeway and I would often go to eat at Mr. Ghatti's Pizza on our lunch break and they had a big box screen TV in the 80s we could watch the soap on which was All My Children at noon. "Tad the Cad" was our favorite soap guy. He was the shampoo guy at his birth mother's beauty shop and he seduced both mother Marion and her daughter Liza at the same time. Loved it when they both found out about the other.

Talk about "Love in the Afternoon" with Fireworks! :biggrin

The best I could do was remember the name of the soap everyone was watching (All My Children). You could rip my finger nails out and I couldn't give you character names or plot info. :biggrin

Amnesia, affair, needless meddling, evil plotting character.

I remember one time waiting in the hospital waiting area and they had a soap on (no audio) and we were having fun adlib'ing the scenes.

Mama Foxbat was big into soaps, "Ryan's Children" was one I remember, and a young Kate Mulgrew before she got her Captain's pips.
