Wii u

If I remember correctly, I picked up a 3DS XL mario kart bundle from BestBuy last Christmas. I want to say it was $149. I'm surprised it hasn't come down in price a yr later.

*correction was $159.99 on 12/14/12 at Best Buy. Still a good deal at the time. MSRP was $199.99

You got a good deal. The standard price for the 3DS is $169.99 and the XL is $199.99. I am looking at the gaudy gold 3DS XL. I would rather not have that flashy color but it comes with the new Zelda game for $219.99 and that is primarily what I want the system for. If I find that bundle at a better price or another deal like amazon just had I will pick one up. If not I will probably get the non XL Luigi's Mansion bundle that starts at $169.99 on Friday.

Edit: it looks like Best Buy is going to be selling the Luigi's Mansion 3DS bundle for $149.99 on Black Friday. If I don't see deal around that price for an XL I will pick up that bundle and buy Zelda separately.

Just an update. Target is putting all 3DS XL hardware on sale for $149.99 on Black Friday. This includes bundles like the Zelda one I have been talking about. I'm going to try to get the Zelda bundle online that day. If that sells out too fast I will take any XL they have available for that price.

At $250, no sure I'd get in on a Wii U, since now my son is not interested. If it ever gets close to $200, I may jump. Sell the Wii to offset the cost a bit. will have a system for the nieces and nephews to play , when they visit.

Picked up a Wii U bundle this morning at our Meijer (Michigan grocery store) which for the last few years had had some great Black Friday deals without the craziness :) for $286.00 which included a ten dollar off bonus. It's the bundle that includes both Mario games. My son is 7 and my daughter is 10 ( she really just likes Just dance) it will be a nice upgrade I think from the wii they have had for a while

I miss Meijer! They do have some great deals on black friday, then the Santa Bucks etc. Stores I've been to always very clean and organized with the low prices you would expect from walmart.

I ended up taking my Target bundle back and getting the bestbuy wii bundle online. Mario bundle the everyone has plus nintendo land and a Luigi remote for $319. I was on the fence about it, but I think the family will enjoy it enough to easily justify the price. The played wii quite a bit till they lost the second remote.

That's a possibility. I still get people asking me for the regular Wii or Wii mini at work. Everybody I talk to says the Wii U is still overpriced at $299 for what you're getting with it.
When/if the Wii U drops to $200 I'll be all over that. I'd love to try out the new Mario games.

Looks like we're getting a new Zelda game, being made by the guys who make Dynasty Warrior.

Yeah, from this video and what IGN is reporting this sounds like a reskinned version of Dynasty Warriors. I wasn't really a Nintendo kid. Outside of a few handhelds, the NES is really the only Nintendo system I ever had growing up. We got a Wii in the last year or two but that was because my Dad's specialist said it would help improve his range of motion with his Parkinson's disease. The only games we actually got for it were Wii Sports, Wii Fit, and Tiger Woods golf.

That being said, I really like the Zelda 3DS XL bundle I got on Black Friday. The new Zelda game that came with it is still the only 3Ds game I own but I am having a good time with it. If they released a more traditional Zelda game for Wii U and included it in a bundle with a good price that would probably get me to pull the trigger. I'll see what the reviews say after this comes out but I don't think Hyrule Warriors will be the game to sell me a Wii U.

I'm the opposite. I think "Traditional Zelda" is so overdone now that I think it's time to move on to something else. I mean at the end of the day you're still the same hero, getting the same tools (Boomerang, bombs, power glove, bigger shield, etc) saving the same princess. Each game in the last decade has either been a remake of "Link to the Past" or "Oracle of Time." I just hope that we don't get the same result that we did with Metroid: Other M.

Still, even if this game turns out to be the second coming of Christ I still need a significant price reduction before I jump on this system. I'm not going in for higher than $200.

I totally understand. That is partially why I have never been a big Nintendo fan. They keep releasing new systems but they basically sell you the same games every time. Don't get me wrong, Mario Kart and Smash Bros are fun games but how much have they really changed over the years? My first console was NES but after that I got PS1>PS2>Xbox>Xbox 360>PS3>Wii>PC>PS4>Xbone in that order. I played tons of N64 and Game Cube at friend's houses growing up but I never owned those systems. I don't have the Nintendo nostalgia that many gamers my age or older do because the only Nintendo console I spent significant time with was the NES. Even then I was a young kid and I just played whatever games my parents bought me. The games I played most were Super Mario Bros, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Ducktales, Paperboy, and Duck Hunt.

As someone who always had competing systems Zelda was the main Nintendo franchise I felt I was missing out on. I know I'm in the minority here but Link Between Worlds on the 3Ds is the first Zelda game I have ever played. Because I didn't play the past entries in the series it hasn't grown stale for me the way the other Nintendo franchises have. I'm sure if I had I would be right there with you. As someone who is new to the series I wouldn't mind seeing a more traditional Zelda game in HD on the big screen.

Edit: I will say that video actually looks pretty cool. It's definitely a more grown up and action orientated Zelda game. I just doubt it will be the thing that pushes me over the edge to buy a Wii U the way Link Between Worlds got me to buy a 3DS. $150 for the special edition 3DS XL and the game included didn't hurt either. If the right bundle ever comes along for the Wii U I will probably get one. Maybe that will be this game but I doubt it.

You definitely are in the minority. I've played about 9 Zelda games, and really they do have very similar DNA. It really is mainly about different skins/stories at this point.

On that note, you REALLY should play some of the other Zeldas. If nothing else, PLEASE play the original. You can either get it emulated, or if you want to do it legit you can get it on Virtual Console for the Wii. A REAL challenge though is to try and beat it with NO help whatsoever. Even though we didn't have internet, Nintendo Power was a godsend back in the day. I'm not sure if I could have beat the game without that magazine.

The original was good for it's time, but not great.
The 2nd though, avoid like the plague.
Link to the Past on the SNES is when Zelda really hit it's stride.
The one I liked the most though, was Majora's Mask, as it was really unique in it's gameplay.

Oh come on.. Zelda 2 wasn't THAT bad. Just because it was a side scroller doesn't mean it was a bad game. It does have a VERY wonky difficulty curve, but other than that it's a satisfying experience IMO.

You want some Zelda games you need to avoid like the Plague? Look no further than the Zelda CD-i games.. (Videos NSFW due to language, but VERY funny.)

Just purchased some wii points, playing some old school super Mario 3, my son is seeing what real gaming is! lol

I always preferred Super Mario World to SMB3. I think I just got annoyed that 3 basically forced you (unless you used warp zones) to play in a marathon session in order to beat the damn thing. World's Save feature allowed you to not feel rushed and also had so many unlockables and reasons to go back to older worlds (hitting the "!" marks and so forth.)

While they have Tecmo bowl, super Tecmo Bowl would be great, though I do have it for my NES
